Yes, that's its official name: Z4 sDrive 35i. Makes no sense, but the Germans often don't. Get past that, however, and the new Z4 isn't so hard to understand. Test Director Dan Edmunds discovered that this Z4 is about more than just its new retractable hardtop, it's a real performance roadster. It's also a real expensive roadster too, but Dan seems to think it's worth it.

re, performance numbers, Car and Drive tested the Boxster S with launch control at 4.1 secs to 60mph.
I think the Z4 is truly outgunned from a performance standpoint. But I checked it out last weekend at the dealership, and it really is a gorgeous GT car. Much better deal (and better looking IMO) than the 6 series.

Love the cars styling and newfound dynamics however the for $64K I could buy 2 Honda S2000's and still have a fun roadster for Saturday and Sunday. The pricing structure on German cars are rediculous.

Wow I love this car!
$30,000 and it's a deal!

Seriously? $64K. Agreed with HA4. For that money I could buy a daily driver and an MX-5, stuff it full of mods, and have the money left over to pay the CARB fines.

If you actually check out this car you will see that it's build, fit and finish, and feature content actually corresponds with the asking price.
A much better deal than the 650 convertible.

Yes, you can get two S2000's for it. And it also feels like that....

So it's heavier, handles worse, has a measly 45 more hp, and costs more than a real performance roadster/GT (S2K, Cayman, Boxster, Exige, Elise, Atom, etc).

For that kind of money, you're better off buying....well, anything.

I've got to admit, this is the first bmw that I actually like looking at. Manly it isn't, but she is kinda pretty. Too bad about the price though (not that I'd get a bmw anyways).

Given the S2000 concept was concieved back in the mid 1990's I would seriously hope the twice as expensive and much much newer BMW roadster would beat it in materials and perceived quality. God knows the Z3 didnt.

Id glady take this turbocharged GT35R S2000 over the Sdrive35 anyday as Im more of a purist when it comes to sports cars. I dont need no stinkin' hardtop, and all those YouDrive, IDrive, Drivetronic, Distronic, Soundtroic and Shiftronic options.
