Formula One Teams Association Announces New Series of Its Own

fota-555.jpg

The Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) is so fed up with the FIA that it has decided to form its own championship. In a statement issued today, FOTA said it has always done its best for the sport, but has been largely ignored.

"It has become clear however, that the teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship.

These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new Championship which reflects the values of its participants and partners.  This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including offering lower prices for spectators worldwide,   partners and other important stakeholders.

The major drivers, stars, brands, sponsors, promoters and companies historically associated with the highest level of motorsport will all feature in this new series."

This is fantastic, the teams needed to do this. F1 is turning into something that doesnt reflect its past, from all the rule changes to the histroical track being left behind. This is great news for all of us. Lets see how well Max's F1 gets along without any manufactures!

Good for them! I hope this becomes a model for other organizations.

I'm glad that the teams have finally put their foot down, I was getting fed up with politics overshadowing the racing itself this season. It will be intersting to see what the FIA's response is.

I think Bernie and Max are past their prime and should retire as they have done nothing good for F1 in a long time. I hope this new racing series will include Montreal, an American race or two, and Silverstone. I don't think Bernie realizes how many people he has pissed off by canceling these races, and the manufacturers timing could not be more favorable due to this.

Let's see how many Countries line up to pay Bernies massive fees without the first half of the grid in attendance. His races will look like the Indy GP in 2005 but without Ferrari.....

Mosley is really acting like stuck up bully. $100 million fines for McLaren, standard engines on every car on the grid... what more?
A split will not help the sport. If only the F1 management would concentrate less on merchandising, branding, marketing, signing up a races for the 2009 calendar on a circuit thats not even complete (Yas Marina Circuit Abudhabi!!!, just to have oil money investment in the sport) - and instead concentrate on the sport itself then we might have those glory days of F1 back.

You need to remember that all Bernie and Max care about is money. They don't care about 'the sport'. Its a business to them.

The best thing that Max and Bernice can do is to fire one another for the sake of sport.
