Yikes, that side-impact crash test is pretty tippy.

These appear to be Euro tests.
The pole resistance seems relatively poor.
NHTSA side tests also show Forester trying to tip over from a side impact.

Folks, keep in mind the previous generation CR-V and the Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute actually *did* roll over on its side. These are tall vehicles.
The Forester has more ground clearance than either of those and did not tip - testament to the lower center of gravity allowed by the boxer engine. The entire engine block lies below the top of the front tire. Pop the hood and see for yourself.
These are excellent results, no ifs ands or buts.

Note the A-pillar is completely intact in the first video. The windshield doesn't even break.
It's a base model, too, note the steelies.
I've never seen a pole test before, so I have nothing to compare that to. The pole hits in front of the B-pillar, is that how it's supposed to be? Not much there to absorb the impact, just the door skin.
Seems like a fairly unlikely scenario - with stability control standard it's not often cars slide that fast sideways in to a pole. Maybe that's why IIHS doesn't conduct that test here.
In the 3rd one, I think it does quite well. The rear does tip more than the front, but it's far from rolling over like the CR-V and Escape. The impact doesn't penetrate very deep, either, just the doors, probably not much in to the cabin.
Show me a competitor for that $20 price that does better overall - I doubt there is one.

$20k, sorry, pardon the typo.

ANCAP gave this Forester 5/5 stars.

This is a 5/5 star test.
Even when a rollover occurs, Subarus still have those super strong indestructable B pillars...
Pole Test is for up to 5 BONUS points.
Who the heck lives through a pole hit anyways?
Without more research, I think the pole test is justifiably just a bonus, as nobody's gonna live through a hydroplane-->side impact wraparound tree. You Die. The End. No car will stop physics.
