2010 Ford Taurus Road Trip: Gauge Pods Are Too Deep

2010_Ford_Taurus_gauge_pods.jpg

#Ford Taurus -- I know that individually recessed gauges are supposed to be cool, but the pods in our 2010 Ford Taurus Limited are some of the deepest I've ever encountered. Add metallic brightwork around the rims of each gauge pod and you've set yourself up for all kinds of shadows and glare in the midday Texas sun.

From the picture, it looks like and old buick or oldsmobile.

I'm assuming your taking I-20 the entire way? That's one boring drive. Might I recommend heading down I-35 toward the Texas Hill Country (Austin/San Marcos)?

just why they have to continue to use that fake wook (fake looking wood? weak looking fake wood??)

and thank god they stayed away from that even ugly hologram stickers on the dash and console.

I really enjoy these posts. They really help me understand what it might be like to live with a car on a day-to-day basis.

I also like a bunch of small posts rather than one or two large ones.

What estreka said. I'm in North Austin. Driving through the Hill Country is a heck of a lot of fun. Try a trip through 1431 through Lago Vista/Marble Falls. When I drove to Pasadena in 2007 I took that detour and it was quite enjoyable.

Why are they deep on the bottom and shallow on the top? Now that's opposite world.

Exactely, Buick and Oldsmobile. And now you know who Ford is going after. Remember, there is no such thing as the Crown Vic anymore. Unless you rent one.

I will never buy a car with pods like that. Forget it...

It seems a lot of Ford products (Mercury/Lincoln included) are trying to copy that early/mid 80's Crown Vic/Lincoln Town car interior design. The steering wheel and different design elements throughout the cabin are obviously heavily influenced by these cars. I understand the whole retro theme but its getting a bit tiresome and Ford didn't really execute them well enough to provide a modern freshness in the design.

oh wait... I think on the Limited models, you can go without that fake wook trims!
