Videos: 2009 Hyundai Genesis Crash Tests by the IIHS

Early 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedans earned just an Acceptable rating from the IIHS for frontal-impact safety -- after the crash dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag and then rebounded into the B-pillar. There was also a significant risk of lower leg injury. Genesis sedans built after November 2008 received modifications to correct for these deficiencies.

You'll find the 2009 Genesis sedan's IIHS side-impact crash test video after the jump.

Side airbags deployed late in the first IIHS side-impact crash test of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis. Cars manufactured after Nov. 20, 2008 have revised airbag timing to correct for this defect.

So I guess don't crash if you own an early Genesis. This would never happen in a Mercedes or BMW.

That's terrible!
You would never see this senseless injury in a Mercedes-Benz or a BMW. Have you seen the video of the MB E-Class tests? That's _real_ crash testing.

So much for knockoffs. Get a real MB E350 and save your family's lives!

At least Hyundai fixed the problems with the car. I bet they can retrofit pre-Nov.20 cars with a reprogramming and different airbag for the steering wheel.

I guess just because it didn't earn top ratings its first time out absolutely earns it loser status.

Or maybe you guys are just miffed that they DID fix it and you can now have a car just as safe as an M-B for 2/3rds the price....with a Hyundai badge on it.

LOL, flame wars between Hyundai and MB. That's just proof that the MB zelots see this as a real contender.

finally back to what this site used to be about. The journalists and media outlets provide the facts (and youtube with the visual), then the viewers chime in and start debating. Its so much nicer than reading some of the other articles which beat up the big three and continue to praise vehicles like toyota's with falling reliability. If I wanted to hear something prematurely biased, I'd turn on Fox.

You would never see this senseless injury in a Lexus.

So much for knockoffs. Get a real Lexus LS460 and save your family's lives! The Toyota LS460 is excellent!

Avoid the Cadillac CTS because it squeaks!

benson2175 says:

Hey don't knock the CTS. Sure the interior squeaks like hell within a year but that's what being an American interpretation of a German sports sedan is all about. And it can drive up on two wheels.

Go here:

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=703

You'll see that Mercedes made changes to the E-Class and STILL couldn't get a good, so shut up with all the M-B crap already. It's simply not true.

dg0472 says:

Ooops. Forgot about the 5 Series. Go here:

Best you'll get from it is a marginal, even after BMW made changes. Rear side air bags are a $385 option. Standard in the Hyundai, it's doubtful they'd make any difference in the BMW because it already gets good marks for the rear seat.

OMG Lexus! They're death traps on wheels! Heads explode, eyes melt out of their sockets and children burn beyond recognition!
