General Motors announced this morning that it intends to build a new small car at an undisclosed plant in the U.S. We assume GM is referring to the Chevrolet Spark
, but who knows at this point.
Announcing production plans just days before you also announce your own bankruptcy seems like odd timing, but then again, everything coming out of GM seems a little bit odd these days.

It was UAW coercion that led to this decision. The UAW is still completely oblivious that they're a major part of the reason the Detroit 3 are where they are today. Making a low margin small car with sky-high UAW costs just means more of the same.

I agree with the stove. The UAW is in a situation where they want ...but yet need to be realistic over the GM organization maintaining its competitivemess and how they impact this. It sometimes appears as if they are oblivious to this aspect.
As an aside- I would have loved for GM /Chevrolet to produce the Nomad concept ( a small sport wagon based on the chassis of the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky....except that it seated 4). I wonder what will happen to the Solstice /Sky chassis and will Chevrolet benefit?

Come on edmunds, check motortrend if you need to get your facts straight: the spark is supposed to be manufactured in S. Korea, the aveo's succussor (the viva?) has not yet been set for a manufacturing plant, so that is the one likely to be made in the US.

Way to be on top of things GM. Good thing you decided to push the development of small cars 5-years ago instead of redeveloping the American muscle car...
