Euro-Spec Ford Focus RS Spotted in Michigan

We've reported that Ford is busy gauging interest in a possible U.S.-spec version of the Ford Focus RS. And yesterday in Royal Oak, Michigan, a Focus superfan spotted a Focus RS with Michigan tags. It appears identical to the Euro-spec version we've already driven.

We'd guess there will be a few more opportunities for sightings as Ford mulls the desirability of a 305-horsepower hot hatch. Probably a few curbings, too, with those vulnerable 19s.

Ford's new chief of motorsports and performance vehicles, Jost Capito chose the Focus RS as his personal vehicle and he's based in Dearborn. Perhaps he was in having lunch, or picking up his dry cleaning. The RS looks like a great replacement for my '03 Focus SVT...

I'd love to see the RS over here....I'd be extremely interested.

I've been drueling over this baby for a while, but..

The real question:

Do people with $30,000 to spend on a new car WANT this? Americans spending that kind of money have traditionally wanted big cars with V8 engines. Ford wants to know if this is viable (to make money on).

As much as I'd rather have this than a Mustang GT or Lincoln Navigator, I don't have that kind of money to spend on a car and probably never will.

The RS might be a bit much over here, especially that price. I wouldn't mind a slightly lower trim though, say in the mid-20s?

I personally dislike Ford in general, even considering the fact that my wife currently owns one. Even she is done with Ford and wants a Toyota, but this RS has caught my attention. Its nice to see a company go out and build something like this even if they dont sell it in the states, like honda's Type R. But i took a quick about face when you guys mentioned the $30,000 price tag. Hell go get a Evo or STI for that money at least you'll be getting AWD and a reliable product. Lower the price if your gonna bring it here FORD and you might just sell a reasonable amount.

e10rice, Ford's recent quality ratings, while not quite on par with the likes of Honda and Toyota, are at least as good as the second-tier Jap makes you mentioned.

This car looks much more appealing in white than in neon green. It should look menacing in black. Price, though, is a sticking point when you can get a 300-hp Mustang for cheaper. Maybe they can give it good gas mileage or something.

Oh, yeah. That's sweet!

To win me over, this car will have to deliver over the WRX, which has a reputation for reliability. It can cost a few thousand more, but I better get an improved interior, better driving dynamics, improved MPG, better looks (which it has already) and a better engine soundtrack. Is that too much to ask?

This, the Fiesta, and the Transit van need to make it over to this side of the Atlantic. I wonder what the costs are for shipping them over, vs retooling plants here in the US.

A bit overdressed for my tastes but the product itself I find very interesting. If Ford can get the price right I can see this car doing well here.

Agree with tovt001, if they can bring a version that's not so extreme in the mid to low 20's with 260hp, people would be all over this car. The svt focus had potential then svt fizzled out.
