Interesting comparison however the Passat would make a better competitor to the 6 as the Passats interior is more useful vs the CC. The CC is bascially a styling excercise for VW, although a good one. The funny thing is the CC has a lower starting price vs the Passat.

My pick between the VW CC and the Mazda6i GT? The 6 due to its higher level of utility, sportier dynamics and feature content for the price.

My choice between the Passat and the 6? Id have to go with the Passat even though the 6 has sportier dynamics, lower price, higher value, the VW's higher level of refinement, premium feel, sophistication and polish win me over.

The whole Edmunds staff would recommend the CC over the 6, but the scoring criteria has the Mazda6 come out on top?

Feature Content: 91.7 vs 25.0.
Wow a whopping 66.7 points of feature that nobody really got excited over... that begs the question whether those features are worth an extra 66.7 points...

I like the CC because it's nice inside. The exterior styling is bland in person.

Completely unrelated, but I saw one of those Mazda's with the crazy smiley face today. I thought it looked weird in pictures....

Residual value for the CC is much higher than the Mazda6. As a Mazda fan and VW fan I must add that poor retained value is not applicable to all Mazda's as the 3 and Miata have very good retained value.

I would take the CC over the 6 for the trim levels tested. i Touring is a more compelling value compared the the CC.
