Remember when your driving school instructor told you to steer into a skid? No? Well, that's the protocol when a car begins to slide sideways or, as in this video dug up by Autoblog, when you get pushed by a fellow British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) driver. Watch and learn.

Yes, a nice bit of control there. However, I should also point out that he was lucky he was approaching a right hand bend as he got sideways. If it were a left hand bend or a long straight, it would have been that much harder to save it.

It's amazing how far they'll go to keep a Chevy from winning the race.

Very nice post! Where can I practice this in my car, safely?!

I should point out that the ability to do that is as much a product of the tires as it is driver skill. I'm assuming he's running sticky tires up front with hard tires in the rear.

Had the same observation as 7driver...not to take anything away from Plato....but the road did come to him here. Anything but this bend to the right might not have allowed the save, no matter who was at the wheel. Very cool stuff, nonetheless.

It's very interesting seeing FWD vs. RWD on the British Touring Car events, and actual cars that look, well, like cars we drive. Good stuff!

It's interesting that Jason Plato was racing a version of the most craptastic vehicle on the roads today.
