The Darwin Files: Woman Burnt To Death in Car Fire She Started

vauxhallfire.jpg

A woman in the UK burned to death in her car after the vehicle caught fire following a road rage incident. According to the The Times, Serena Sutton-Smith rammed her Vauhall Nova into the rear end of a Fiat Punto after becoming enraged on a rural side road.

Not content with merely ramming her fellow motorist, Ms. Sutton-Smith remained in the car with her foot to the floor as the front wheels spun furiously. Once the tires disintegrated, the wheels began showering the engine with sparks and a fire erupted.

Nicolas Willmore saw the incident from his nearby house and ran over to warn the woman to get out, but she refused. "The person replied 'F*** off, just f*** off' and she raised her right fist towards me in a threatening manner before slamming the door shut," said Willmore. The coroner ruled it an accidental death.

I was initially offended by this posting, but after reading the entire article, I changed my mind.

Well, that certainly is NOT a Vauxhall Nova in the picture above (looks like a Hyundai Sonata), and the pic does not appear in the original article - where did you grab it from?

"The front nearside passenger wheel gouged into the road surface by 50mm and the tyre was totally destroyed by the friction."

Holy cr@p! That's nearly 2 inches - she WAS pissed!

"The inquest heard that Ms Sutton-Smith, who had previously worked behind the bar at a working men’s club in Ashton sub Edge..."

A 'Working Men's Club', eh?

"...(she)had a history of erratic behaviour and suffered from bipolar disorder."

Well, that was an important piece of the puzzle, now wasn't it??

I remember reading this article six months ago or so. Sometimes I think things like ADD and bipolar disorder are overdiagnosed, but in this case it sounds like it killed her. Sad, but also a pretty wild story.

Tragic but at least she was alone. All too often we hear about someone losing it and taking their family with them.

Glad there were no children in the back seat.
