Spy Video: 2011 Porsche 911 Prototype On the Nurburgring

Oh come on, you weren't expecting anything else from the next-generation 2011 Porsche 911 were you? It has looked this way for decades, so no matter how extensive the mechanical changes are to the 998-series of this classic sportscar, it's always going to look familiar on the outside.

More info and video of this prototype on the Nurburgring after the jump.

Judging from this prototype spotted recently on the Nurburgring test track, the rear end of this 911 will get the most extensive cosmetic changes. The car doesn't look substantially larger in any direction, but from the rear three-quarter angle it appears as though the wheels are a little off from the bodywork, so some slight changes to the wheelbase and/or front and rear tracks may be in the works.

Given the numerous engine upgrades made last year, the 998 isn't likely to see any significant power increases over the current model. Look for Porsche to shave weight in order to add performance, a tactic that will not only make it more nimble, it might also help Porsche meet more stringent emissions standards that could be headed our way.

Expect to see prototypes like this for at least another year or so as the production version of the 2011 Porsche 911 isn't expected to arrive until the spring of 2011.

I dunno, it looks pretty different to me - a lot longer, very Cayman-esque. Is it just me?

Why do they even bother disguising it?!

It's okay by me if the overall design doesn't change much....always liked....always will.

Fire the narrator! Awful. Not "stealthy" like IL is trying to pull off - it is just quiet and dumb... and really a bit boring.

I find it looks a lot longer too. The neat little sports car has gone through the taffy puller!

The camouflage on the rear makes it a bit reminiscent of the 959 in profile.

It would seem the narrator doesn't have much passion for his subject.

In response to the people saying it looks cayman-y or lengthy... I don't find it looks cayman-y, but I do find it looks long... almost like... wait the new porsche panamera except with two doors!!!

I'd still take it over a BMW though, and this is coming from a rather outspoken BMW fan

Will it beat the current record holder - the Dodge Viper ACR?

Be interesting to see!

I wish Porche would stop making the stupid SUV and stop putting the engine in the wrong place.
