455-555.jpg

Now that GM has made it official, it's time to cue the memorials. Always best to remember the good ol' days at times like this, so we'll ask the inevitable: Which Pontiac was your all-time favorite?

77-79 Trans Am. I own a '79, black on black. Everywhere I drive people love the car. If Pontiac hadn't strayed from its core and started making Azteks, Torrents, Montanas etc., they wouldn't be going away.

I'm sad to see the brand go. Recent attempts to revive it with the G8, however, prove they faced a bigger uphill battle than it is worth. I think my T/A will welcome a 2010 Camaro SS in the garage space next to it.

Firebird, any year, black with gold bird on the hood.

I saw one in person a year or so ago, driving down the street in my neighborhood. It was a perfect, and I mean *perfect*, restored convertible. I gave the owner a big thumbs up as I drove by, but I'm not sure if he thought it was for the car or for him - Chargers quarterback Doug Flutie. I only recognized him after I did the thumbs-up lol.

I will forever blame the Aztek for Pontiac's demise.

To be perfectly honest, in all my years of driving, there's never been a Pontiac that I've "lusted" for. There have been several that I've liked—but never enough to buy.

1965 Pontiac GTO. Simple, aggressive and effective. Love that "tiger" look.

67 GTO with the flying butress then the Formula version of the Firebird pictured above, a 70 1/2 - 71 ram air. It always looked to me like a jet fighter on the road.

Now I just need to figire out how to get myself a G8 before they are gone.

The 60's GTOs mentioned by others above.

I too think this was avoidable and also think that there's room for Pontiac in the market if they had really good vehicles that were unique to the division.

1973 455 Super Duty Trans Am (or Firebird) are my favorites due to the circumstances under which they were developed and produced.

The 1989 Turbo Trans Am was a pretty cool "special edition" as well...

The 1989 Turbo Trans Am.
Pinnacle of Pontiac history....

'Nuff said.
(altough technically i guess you should
have one of those cheesy "POWERED BY BUICK"
badges on the rear trunk....haha)

I drove my boss's new 6000STE on a 600-mile trip back in 1987. While it wouldn't set the world on fire now, back then it seemed so sophisticated. It was the most up-market car I had ever driven at the time, and it's the Pontiac I personally remember most.

Of course, if it wasn't for a very real concern about the tanking resale value, I'd sure love to replace that memory with a new G8 GT. I'm sure it would provide the same kind of feeling and back it up with serious performance too. Oh, well...

Pontiac could not have survived on sports cars alone. It needed to expand its portfolio.

While I know I'm probably alone on this, I'd say my favorite was the G8 GT. It was the first time I've considered Pontiac to be a credible brand. You need bread'n'butter products to keep you viable, and I'd always thought this was that big step Pontiac needed.

Here's a crazy thought. In 5-6 years, Pontiacs will be listed under "Other Makes" on eBay.

I like the original GTO and have good memories of a late 70's 6.6 Litre Trans Am a friend owned in high school but not much else.

I really can't think of anything Pontiac made since the seventies that I would miss. It's the same with Oldsmobile and Plymouth. Cars with great history but nothing interesting since.

LeMans or Fiero, it's a toss up.

Fiero with a Ferrari body kid.

Joking.

I would have to say a 2002 Trans Am Blackbird or 1965 GTO.

'69 GTO Judge. And the Trans Sport van (jk).

'70 Trans-Am. I've always loved early second gen F-bodies. A friend of mine in high school had a white one with blue strips, and he built a nice 455 for it. I wanted it.

1965 Bonneville 2-door hardtop, followed by the '66 and '67 GTOs.

'79 Pontiac Phoenix with the 305 V8 and a 4 spd manual.

Yeah... I know how to roll.

The current G8 but my other two favorites are the original Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am with the Screaming Chicken on the front and the Kitt the 1982 Firebird from the original Knight Rider.
