Rush Limbaugh Says Nobody Wants Hybrids

rush-100.jpg In a typically long-winded tirade on his monstrously popular talk show, Rush Limbaugh railed against hybrids as nothing more than political pawns.

"The Ford and Honda hybrids due out this month are among dozens planned for the coming years as automakers try to meet new fuel-efficiency standards and please politicians overseeing the industry's multibillion-dollar bailout."

He went on to note that sales are weak, so clearly they are unpopular.

"Nobody's buying 'em," Limbaugh said. "Nobody wants them!  The manufacturers are making them in droves to satisfy Obama!  Sorry for yelling. Nobody wants them!"

I want a quad turbo GT-R.
Screw hybrids.

He's right, no one wants them. Gas prices are low, they usually go for a premium over other subcompacts and they give liberals something to feel good about. I asked an owner of a Prius about the desposal of the toxic battery when it goes South. Of course she didn't have an answer for that.

firstwagon says:

He's an idiot.

Right now all car sales are down. Would it be right to say no one wants cars anymore?

Gas prices are low because the economy is low. As soon as it goes up so will the price of gas.

As for the disposal of the "toxic battery" that the anti-hybrid types love to talk about... do you have a clue about the countless toxic things you dispose of every year? Bet most just go in the garbage can.

Half of what Rush says has some basis in fact. The other half is made up. Rush can't tell the difference, so he spouts off on all of it. It makes him an idiot.

Yet somehow Rush (as well has his liberal counter parts) manage to get people riled up. It's an awful formula that works real well.

carlisimo says:

I never understood why so many people feel like hybrids are a threat to everything they believe in. Sure the hybrid poster child, the Prius, is the antithesis of a fun car to drive... but if it didn't exist most of its buyers would be getting automatic Camries and Corollas, not Mustangs or Jeeps or whatever your favorite car type is.

RUSH STICK TO WHAT YOU KNOW ( NOTHING)

firstwagon says:

03:15 PM, 04/ 3/09

I wonder what Rush drives?

Everyone I've met so far that really dislikes Hybrids owns something very big, very powerful or very expensive.

As I see it they bought their vehicle to show their superiority over others and now hate that what is basically an economy car is getting more respect then they are.

Perhaps Rush would like to tell the group about his feelings now that nerds are cooler then him.

"I want a quad turbo GT-R."

so that would be 1.5 turbos per cylinder? You sure the engine won't simply pop?

xelement says:

05:19 PM, 04/ 3/09

Firstwagon, how many toxic batteries do you put in the trash?

greenpony says:

05:24 PM, 04/ 3/09

I think that's 1.5 cylinders per turbo.

firstwagon says:

05:30 PM, 04/ 3/09

"Firstwagon, how many toxic batteries do you put in the trash?"

Blue bin, not trash.

Most people throw them in the trash though. That would be a lot of batteries in the 10 years it takes to kill a hybrid battery.

Europeans and the rest of the world, same planet, same air, drive vehicles that typically get 2-3 times better mileage than the vehicles sold to American consumers. The rest of humanity accepts that they do not need to drive a 5,000 lb SUV to buy a loaf or a gallon of milk. The American auto giants make and sell these cars in other parts of the world. (And make a profit) Why not here? See Google search below.

The big three have sold the American consumer/American economy BS for the last 30 years. and have obstructed vehicle safety and performance advances,
Q: Why doesn’t a ford focus have rear head restraints? A: $$$$.
Q; What happened to daytime running lights?
A: $$$
Q: What happened to Turbo charging?
A: $$$$
Q: What about electric cars?
A: See: Global Electric Motorcars : GEM
A: See: Ford Think.
A: See: G-WIZ, Nice Mega

High profile people, Rush, are used by the big 3 to manipulate consumers. If rush said it, it must be true, he probably believes it too. Why are the Big 3 reintroducing the muscle cars that became extinct 25 years ago? These cars could not and will not be able to do anything better than the retro cool dinosaurs they are styled upon. If the American consumer continues to drive 300HP vehicles alone to the supermarket no amount of taxpayer bailout/money will save the BIG 3..

The rest of the world in their TATO NANO may cause the 3 world war over diminishing energy supplies as billions hit the roads at 50 MPG, helped by a Mustang, Charger, Camaro that can go 0-60 in 6 seconds and get 12 MPG. These vehicle have cramped seating for 4, hopefully with rear head restraints, The Nano with seating for 4, and head restraints, will give mobility to the rest of the world where families of 4 or 5 presently all ride on one 50cc scooter..

Google:
FORD : KA, C-MAX,
Vauxhall/GM :TIGRA, ZAFIRA. AGILA
CHRYSLER JEEP: SAME AS USA, BUT DIESEL

Thank goodness management of the Big 3 only earn a lifetimes income, for most Ammericans, everyday before their coffee gets cold in the back of their stretch limo. Not including their stock options, or did they sell those already?

How many of you naysayers have actually listened to Limbaugh for a while, verses just accepting what other people say about him, who purposely and lazily take things out of context and misrepresent them? He has guts - more than a growing number of Americans who've become complacent by decades of relative prosperity compared to most of the world.

There's a reason this country has been so much more successful since its inception. It's because our people have had the most freedom and liberty than anywhere else in the world, compared with an environment in which people are restricted or flat out prevented from innovation and from being the best they can be.

Going along with "the rest of the world" is the pack mentality, the easiest and least informed choice a person can make, seeking the approval of people who don't know and have little understanding or appreciation of the principles which founded our country. Continuing to do so will result in us being enslaved by the elite minority once again. History will judge us harshly by having let such a precious legacy of liberty hard fought for by our ancestors slip away.

carlisimo says:

11:53 PM, 04/ 3/09

If we're so free, why do hybrid owners have to put up with so much hate over their personal choice of vehicle? They don't dish any out. Sure there are anti-car editorials and statements, but they're generally not from hybrid owners.

brn says:

cwc1, I listened to him for two hours today. I stand by my statements.

DCuerpoJr says:

@cwc1

"...our people have had the most freedom and liberty than anywhere else in the world, ,,,"

True, but remember that you freedom and liberty comes at the sacrifice of those who fought for it, sacrficed their freedom and liberty in the name of it, and died for it. Past, present and future.

You will never grasp a true sense of freedom and liberty until you've had both of them completely taken away from you. From traveling the world and testing the boundaries of other countries you'll start to realize that the concepts of freedom and liberty do exist in other places outside the US. In every aspect, more or less.

billt9 says:

02:56 AM, 04/ 4/09

cwc1 is right. The rest of the world, like Canadia, are all wrong.
We should stick to our American guns like 5000 psi epoxy, and get every American in a Chevy Suburban, or better, a HUMMER H1 with all capital letters.
That'll show the "rest of the world", if they can even call themselves civilized.

Petition your Congressmen to buy American styled cars. It will be a felony punishable by 10 years in prison to purchase a vehicle weighing less than 4000 lb. Go Suburban!

firstwagon says:

10:47 AM, 04/ 4/09

"have had the most freedom and liberty than anywhere else in the world"

When they wrote the freedom and liberty part, they should have included another word.

Responsibility.

It's great to be able to do what you want but not if it's at the expensive of someone else. If you think your forefathers fought and died so you could burn as much gas as possible and leave nothing left but pollution for the next generation then I think you should read your history some more.

It would be great if we didn't need rules and if everyone was resposible maybe that would be the case. However look at what happened to the banking industry because of a lack of rules. Because they could, they loaned vast amounts of money to countless people who had no real chance of being able to pay it back. A lot of people got rich out of it but in the end it ruined the economy and many banks. In Canada banking rules are tougher and as a result, no Canadian banks have failed, no bail outs are needed and the top 5 banks posted a healthy profit last quarter.

"Going along with "the rest of the world" is the pack mentality, the easiest and least informed choice a person can make"

Thinking you know it all and everyone else is wrong is a far worse and less informed choice. There are lots of things that are done better around the world then they are in the US. Not learning from others can lead to disaster.

A smart leader will take the best ideas from everywhere to build the best country for everyone.

cwc1 says:

Far too many today have been brainwashed by anti-Americanism. Of (personal) responsibility, that is one thing we need more of in this country. Instead, more and more want to shift that to someone else and blame them. Washington politicians are notorious for this. Members of Congress act like they had nothing to do with the very problems their legislation created, and get away with it because not enough people are paying attention and don't hold them accountable. Our mass news media facilitates this, because they are no longer interested in truth.

The problems in the banking industry occurred because of excessive meddling by the federal government, which coerced lending institutions to make bad loans to people who couldn't afford to pay them back, all in the name of "enabling everyone to share in the American Dream". Look up the Community Reinvestment Act.

A smart leader will understand the principles of limited government and hold people accountable to the law, and not squander away our freedoms. Our country was not founded on socialism. If it had been, we would not be the most prosperous country in the world.

Too many Americans do not know nor care about history. Thus, we are doomed to repeat some of the same mistakes of the past which will lead to the same problems.

firstwagon says:

01:08 PM, 04/ 4/09

"Far too many today have been brainwashed by anti-Americanism. "

So anyone that doesn't follow the party line has been brainwashed?

You really need to get out and travel the world. And I don't mean staying in fancy hotels where the locals kiss your butt.

Find out what the world thinks and why. Might be an eye opener. For example, do you know how many countries the US has Troops in? Probably not.

The last number I heard was 135. And believe it or not, most people do not want foreign troops in their country. Would you?

As for socialism, a pure socialist government will not work. Neither will a pure capitalist government. The right answer is always somewhere in the middle. You must help people that need help but you can't give them a free ride or they'll never do anything for themselves.

The purpose of the CRA was to get banks to loan money low income people instead of just the rich and it was a good idea. If the great unwashed masses have no access to credit then you end with a sociality with a weathy elite and vast numbers of poor. You see that all over the world too and that's not what the US claims to be.

It wasn't until "predatory lending practices" by the banks surfaced that problems started.

Anyhow I could go on debating this all day but the weather's too nice so I'm outta here.

firstwagon,

Sounds like you've swallowed some left wing Kool-Aid.

Gee, there are what, about 150+ “major” countries, and many have Embassies, which have Marine Guards, so I guess 135 countries have American troops?

Do you believe we have significant Troops in countries like Malawi, Burkeno Faso, Zimbabwe, Myanmar, Togo, etc?

Or if some Navy ship is temporarily at a port, it constitutes troops?

Or if an Advisor to Chile on their communications system (yes, I knew one) happens to be from USA, is that a presence?

The NiMH batteries in Toyota hybrids are fully recyclable and Toyota has a $200 bounty on them.

I find it tiring that Rush has pointed out Toyota and Honda's hybrid sales, yet completely overlooks GM and Ford's.
