Ford has named Moray Callum (above right) as its new executive director for Ford Americas design. He replaces Peter Horbury (above left) who will head back to Volvo.

In case you're not familiar with Ford's bizarre job titles, Mr. Callum will be in charge of all of Ford's design activities in the western hemishpere. Prior to his promotion, the Scotsman presided over the styling of the latest Super Duty trucks. According to Ford, Callum will also guide the design of Mercury and Lincoln. Horbury, who was born in Britain, will oversee all of Volvo's design efforts.

I don't know that an American is necessary. Callum was in charge, or a major part of, the 2010 Mustang, which might not be revolutionary, but is definitely an American centric design.

I think that the Taurus is also pretty well done. Not a knockout by any means, but tasteful and strong looking. Again, an American type of style.

In higher educational institutions and professions, most places will not fill their ranks with perhaps 20% of their own graduates.

That is because inbreeding makes retarded products and retarded research. you want a mix of people educated from all over so you get novel ideas to mix and mingle.

The American team has shown it's inbred to death, and now is time to introduce foreign thoughts. Once the Americans have been awaken by the exposure to all the new thoughts which were previously unimaginable and impossible to them, then you can start refilling ranks with the newly enlightened Americans.
