First Drive: 2010 Cadillac SRX

Does the 2010 Cadillac SRX even have a chance here? That's the question Senior Editor Dan Pund attempts to answer after noting that the new SRX was designed to go heads up with the segment -leading Lexus RX.

He was impressed by the ride quality of the base model, but found that the optional 20-inch wheels made the ride a little more jarring than necessary. The base V6 is a little short on torque, but solid on mileage. And if you like the interior styling of the current CTS, the SRX will suit you just fine.

Interesting comments, but the Hybrid version of the RX350, the RX400h, is hardly an isolated mom carrier. The seats, for starters, are firm - you sit on them, not in them. When you hit bumps, you feel them, the acceleration's strong, and it doesn't heel over the way you'd expect in turns. Granted, it's no 600 hp Go-Cart, but it's no mush bucket either.

Looks better then I expected. I'll be interested to hear more.

Looks nice and pleasant to see on the road.
I would still take a Lexus RX because I prefer more organic curvy styling than full-on hard edged parallelogram style.

Plus the Lexus RX is bigger.
So... why's everyone comparing the Lexus RX to all the other brands' compact crossovers? Because Lexus doesn't make a compact crossover anymore?
