Looks like it did great to me.

Wander around an auto wrecking yard and look at the number of cars you see where the drivers seat is now in the passengers seat and you'll understand how great modern cars are no matter what the size.

My son had an '07 Mini and was squarely hit in the side by a Chevy Trailblazer, a large SUV. The Mini was fantastic and he walked away a little rattled but nothing more than a bruise. The window shatter out, the airbags deployed and I think the car sent out a signal. I wish I could post the photos. The Chevy peeled the side open like a can opener but the beams and pillars held up and with the airbags protected him. Interestingly, the driving wheel airbag did not deploy, which was exactly right for a side impact.

These are very well engineered cars and you can have a lot of confidence in commuting and handling the larger traffic. It's not a huge sacrfice in safety like the old subcompacts in general.
