2010 Chevy Camaro Breaks Down

Camaro-on-truck.gif

Camaro5 member BUMLEB was stranded on Sunday when her yellow 2010 Chevy Camaro 2SS automatic conked out without warning. She had just bought the car and had driven it for only 20 minutes before needing her AAA card and a big white flatbed.

Bummer, but don't worry, it was nothing serious.

Turns out the battery cable insulation wore through which allowed the exposed cable to short out the starter. A new cable has been ordered and the Camaro is expected to be back on the road tomorrow.

Battery cable insulation wore through? After 20 minutes? This should never wear through, ever!
Sounds like a little problem with QC...

This literally made me groan. Not that it will dissuade me from buying a new Camaro, I just don't want to hear it from my domestic bashing friends and fellow commentators.

I heard on the street that the real story is one of those stick on lead anti squeal brake weights came off and jammed a muffler bearing.

Wait for it -- the inevitable GM bashing is sure to come. Some like to hate GM more than they'd ever want to like it. But if this happened on a new Honda or Toyota, it'd be "no problem, it happens, it's just a minor glitch, they'll fix it quickly, etc." Or it would hardly be publicized at all.

What's an acronym for GMs that break down...

People make fun of FORD so much, but now FORDs are very reliable, so that acronym in reality is dead...

I love the Camaro. I really think GM has moved far beyond the reputation it earned in the 70s-2000s. Quality and reliability in general are way up. But then you get the Camaro. Great car, yes, but there have already been tons of production delays to fix quality issues, and they're still kicking out a copy here and there with misaligned trim, jury-rigged brake weights, mismatched paint tones, and now this. GM, snatching defeat from the hands of victory. They're so close, but they just can't help slipping back into their old ways.

If it failed that fast, it was never hooked up right in the first place.

I suspect the old British Leyland spanner in the works problem.

@billt9

Here's a few acronyms for you: General Maintenance, General Malaise, Great Mistake, Generally Miserable, Grossly Misconceived, Grungy Merchandise.

Actually, I'd agree that this is just one of those minor early-off-the-line glitches, but it's still not cool.

Worker morale is probably pretty low right now. Hard to keep your mind on what you are doing when you're not sure you'll have a job tomorrow.

As many have said, I'm sure this is just an early production problem - this is not unique to GM. Although, with that said, it certainly doesn't help their image.

Isn't the internet wonderful? If this happened 10-15 years ago, you probably wouldn't have heard about it unless you were close to the owner...

This is like one of those celeberty "exclusive" photos to show an actress without makeup or looking unsightly in a bikini after gaining weight. Knock it off already! The media sharks and vultures are circling GM and shame on you. So a camaro has broken down. Is this really news worthy? Want to "wow" car fans with news, go to a Toyota and Honnda service department and be shocked they actually break down too. Apparently THAT seldom reported news would completely melt your skulls

"Worker morale is probably pretty low right now. Hard to keep your mind on what you are doing when you're not sure you'll have a job tomorrow."

Especially when you start looking around and realize your skill set only qualifies you for jobs that pay $10 to $12/ hour.

If this happens with other Camaros then it's the old "1st year blues" which plague almost every car model going through its first year.

The real story is how the General steps forward to rectify these mistakes.

Chevy FAIL.

@petrolhead85: LOL!

@cwc1: Not true, as a Toyota RAV4 owner, I and many others owners (see RAV4World forums) have griped loudly about the inexcusably long pause between the throttle/transmission during downshifts. Name a time when a new model Honda or Toyota has had a letdown like this within the first 20 minutes off the sales lot.

Actually I can. I have a neighbour bought a new Accord last summer. By the time he got it home he realized the A/C was not working. He took it right back and they fixed it quickly. I guess some connector was unplugged.

No big deal but stuff happens to every make.

billt9 says:

well from this thread we have learned these things only happen to GMs and Hondas.
Better stick with Toyota.

Firstwagon where do you live? Your neighbor had to drive all the way home in the summer before he realized the A/C wasn't working. I would have noticed that before I got off the dealer's lot.
