2010 Camaro Cop Car: Check Out Your Worst Nightmare

There have been cop Camaros since the late 1970s. The ponycars second, third and fourth generations all made it into the hands of the man (some photos after the jump) and chances are the new 2010 Camaro will do the same. This video shows the best rendition of a 2010 Cop Camaro we've seen. The guy got it right, down to the push bar and extra lights.

What do you think?

Looks sharp. The "Stop" light in the windshield is a nice touch. To bad cop cars get beaten up so much. Its no problem when its an Impala or Charger, but it just doesn't seem fair to subject a Camaro to that kind of treatment.

That bottom picture looks realistic. Lonely 2 lane road? Check. Police lurking in the bushes? Check.

This would obviously only be used for high speed pursuits and such, not for regular patrol duty. 4 doors is simply more practical. In order to outrun something like this, your gonna need an exotic car. Or a curve. (jk, lol) 400+ hp is a lot of gravy!

I hate videos that do nothing more than pan a picture. That entire video was nothing more than two pictures with some bad music.

Bah.

What's the point of having a Police car as a Coupe? Where are you gonna stick the people you arrest? Or are you just going to use it as a ticket giving machine, in which case it would be more economical to put up an automated speed detection/camera setup.

Most the the Cop Camaros I've seen have been used for PR. They take them to school on the anti drug programs.

It helps convince the kids that Cops are cool and not the bad guys (no matter what their idiot parents think).

subytrojan, did I see some drifting in that video? I thought the Japanese invented drifting...

heffling, mostly they're used for high speed pursuit. CHP in California had some 4th gens for that reason.

Cops shouldn't be driving sports cars. Heck they shouldn't even be driving the gas-guzzlers they're driving now. We all know speed enforcement is all about revenue generation and not safety. Cops should be driving HYBRIDS. Seriously. Think about all the tax dollars they'd save. I'm sure Ford could outfit the Fusion Hybrid to serve police (and even taxi) duty nicely. It's still quick enough for them, will get much better mileage, and save a ton of money. Just what local gov'ts need during these hard times. Cops have NO business driving sports cars. Most departments forbid high-speed chases (and smartly so), so why do they need cars like that? Image? Gimme a break.

You do know that by forbidding high speed chases you just encourage criminals to run. If you know the Cop won't chase you, why would a criminal stop?

I wish they had car like this in the UK. I keep getting pulled over by ford fiestas and vauxhall astras. I got stopped for a car check last week and ended up late for work. Not a good day.
