2009 New York Auto Show: 2010 Volkswagen GTI

#NYIAS Already on sale in Europe, the 2010 Volkswagen GTI hasn't yet made it to the U.S. You may not have even noticed, though, as the sixth-generation Golf looks almost unchanged compared to its predecessor.

Same look, same engines and typical Volkswagen attention to detail. And according to European Editor Alistair Weaver, surprisingly civilized, almost to a fault. Get the rest of the detail in our first drive report from Europe. -- Ed Hellwig, Lead Senior Editor

I love the front end! The rest of the car is... evolutionary, to put it nicely.

Is that production? If so, very nice because we get the rear bumper and dual exhaust.

Im still wondering how VW makes this car so affordable yet it looks and feels so expensive?

I like the new design however I wish the rim design had changed also as they agethey dont really go with the car.

I'm sure it's just the color, but that car looks sweet!

hondacura4: From a former GTI VR6 owner; I'll tell you how. Cheap mechanical parts underneath the body and the great interior plastics.
After about 50,000, major parts start to fail.
I sold my GTI through Ebay and I swear to God, the day before the guy was coming to pick it up, a major engine problem happened that cost me close to $700.
Yet, I'd still another GTI, but I would never buy one again, only lease so I could walk away and be done with it.

That article mentions that we aren't getting the Euro steering wheel. What will ours look like? Anyone got any pictures of the US-spec interior?

Really good looking car. Better in my opinion than the Mk5. One major thing though. If they finally get the Manual transmission feel down right then I will be a big fan. Otherwise the style is the only thing that will have me even take a second glance at it.

Saw one on the road yesterday (in dark silver) they look pretty good in person. VW must have some type of test facility here in Tampa.
