Yes, the hype machine is in full gear now that production of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is officially underway at GM's Oshawa, Ontario plant. According to Chevrolet, 14,000 Camaros have already been sold, most of them top-of-the-line SS models.
Official EPA numbers were released as well and they are indeed impressive. Base V6 models with the 3.6-liter V6 are rated at 18mpg city and 29mpg highway when paired with the six-speed automatic. With the six-speed manual, the city rating drops to 17mpg. SS models with the automatic are rated at 16mpg city and 25mpg on the highway. Manual models are rated the same in the city and 24mpg on the highway.
The first production Camaro off the assembly line will go to Rick Hendrick who bid $350,000 for the honor at the recent Barrett-Jackson auction in January.

Anyone who complains that this car is a gas hog is just blowing smoke. These numbers are comparable to many V6 sedans. (Then again, MPG is kinda dismal while doing donuts and burnouts.)

Agree with altimadude, your mileage will vary when you drive this car like it is supposed to be driven. But huzah! The Camaro is more fuel efficient and performs better than not only the other pony cars, but most other performance cars as well.

Can't wait to see a real production example. The interior picture isn't encouraging (designed and built by Fisher-Price?).
When does convertible production begin?

Wasn't the Camaro getting projector/xenon headlights?
Also, when do they start hitting dealers? And when will we be seeing a full test?

""Also, when do they start hitting dealers? And when will we be seeing a full test?""
Not only a full test, but when can we expect to see one in the Long Term Fleet. Hopefully a 1SS or 2SS pacakge 6-speed. A direct long term comparison to the Challenger SRT-8 and 2010 Mustang GT would be awesome.

What's with those gauges down by the shifter? That's even worse than a Prius.

Sabastian, HIDs with Halos are included in the RS package, available on LT and SS models. Otherwise you get traditional halogens.
brn, the 4 pack gauges by the shifter are included in 2LT and 2SS models. They show engine oil temp and pressure, battery voltage, and transmission temps. They're mainly there as a heritage thing and aren't too useful. The DIC in between the speedo and tach replicates most of the same information.
Gearhead, that pretty much is the production interior. Go see it in person (demos should be at dealers shortly, if not already) before making a final judgment. As with so many things automotive, pictures often line.
Edmunds, so when is the embargo over? I wanna see the full tests. And for the LT fleet, as interested as I am in the SS, I think the V6 would be a great fit for the fleet. It is the first V6 in a pony car to be any good, and it should stack up well against a Mustang GT, G37, 370Z, CTS, etc. I'd like to see if a non-V8 pony car can be any good.

Is Oshawa assembly in the G*'s destiny?

HUD is not available yet on the Camaro.
G8 assembly anywhere but in Australia
seems very unlikely at this point...

Very happy G8 driver...
