Earlier today, Acura released an odd-looking teaser shot of the crossover it will unveil at the 2009 New York Auto Show. Shortly thereafter, a member of the Acurazine fansite found a few more, slightly more revealing photos.
So now we have multiple angles of the shadowy crossover, most of which seem to indicate that Acura is getting ready to build a vehicle similar to the BMW X6. With that in mind, the darkly-lit photos make a little more sense.
We expect to see this sporty crossover arrive with the same 3.7-liter V6 used in the all-wheel drive TL sedan, so it should match up well with BMW's six-cylinder X6 and Infiniti's FX35. Look for full details in a few weeks when it makes an official world debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show.

You'd think they would learn their lesson from the RDX sales failure. No one wants a crossover from Acura that isn't called the MDX.

First they cancel the new NSX then this. Acura is dead to me.

Does anyone want the MDX?
I can't remember the last time I saw one.
Acura should get back to cars.

It looks nice. I like it.
Honda isn't as dumb as Aston Martin, Honda actually deleted the photo data in the dark areas so these photos can't be gamma adjusted to show the car hahaha.
I see a bunch of MDXs on the road.
In fact, the MDX is Acura's trio of best selling vehicles (MDX, TSX, TL),
and the MDX is the NUMBER ONE selling Acura in 2008.

Er, number one seller means Acura needs to stick with the MDX.

Ack, little after I click "Submit" did I note I cannot read.
The MDX is the number one selling vehicle in 2007.
Number two selling vehicle in 2008.

you think they would've tried making a RSX replacement of some sort over some sporty crossover x6 copy

"Does anyone want the MDX?"
Firstwagon, MDX has proven to be one of the best in its segment. Just because you dont see them doesnt mean people dont buy them outside your area.
This CUV (whatever it will be called) is part of Acuras goal of attaining the tier 1 status. Although Im not in love with the idea of this type of low volume, low utility vehicle, it does make business sense for Acura as it will give them a player in a nich market. Outside of the NSX Acura has never competed in the niche segment.
I personally think Acura will (eventually) succeed but they need to have less compromise in their product offerings. I have a long list of recommendations.
- Little to no Honda based products.
- Broader spectrum of drivetrain options.
- Beneficial engine technology. (worlds first SOHC dual VVT is great however direct injection has proven itself especially in boosted applications).
- Dual clutch 7 speed transmission option.
- 6 or 7AT. (Im hearing rumors the CUV above will debut with a 6 or 7AT).
- Give the MDX and TSX the i-DTEC diesel option they deserve.
- More cohesive styling (PLEEEEEEEEEZE).
- RWD chassis offerings w/ SH-awd as an option. (Sedans and coupes can be RWD as the CUVS have proven they can remain FWD based and be competitive using SH-awd)
- Resume the NSX replacements development.
- Make the RL a TRUE flagship w/V8.
- Offer a true RWD performance/luxury coupe (think G37/335i/S5).
- Get rid of the damn grill.
- Broader spectrum of factory options. (Keyless start, glass roofs, ETC ETC.)
- Stand alone sport package option. (No more rediculously expensive dealer installed A-Spec kits).
- Entry level Acura below TSX. (think Audi A3/Golf GTi).
- Stonger all around performance from all models.
- Even better build/material quality.
- Eventually offer a high performance line. (Think Cadillac V-Series, BMW ///M, Mercedes AMG or Audi RS).
- Better consistency in build/material quality from model to model. (Noticable difference between TSX and RDX, TSX being the better of the two).
- Strongly encourage dealers to upgrade their facilities. (My local Acura dealer shares space with Pontiacs. No offense to Pontiac but a $50K Acura RL should not share floor space with $15K a Pontiac G3).
- Last but certainly not least, keep building and maintain Acuras presence in ALMS as racing against premier or tier 1 auto manufacturers (and winning) can be beneficial.

CX7, its rediculously obvious youve NEVER checked the sales numbers for this segment.
The FACT is the RDX has been selling pretty strongly within its market. Sure it's a small one however compared with the competition it has always sold fairly well.
Here is February 2009:
1. GLK - 1,918
2. EX - 880
3. RDX - 709
4. Q5 - 627
5. X3 - 267
6. XC60 - 235
Notice both X3 and RDX are way older than the others on that list. Past sales year (2008), only three were on sale:
X3 : 17,622
RDX: 15,845
EX : 12,873

I see more TLs and TSXs here than MDXs but when traveling to the northeast, I see more than a fair share of MDX's.

I like the look of this thing... from what I can see... it's rear end almost reminds me of the... ahem... may i say FCX Clarity... I wonder if Acura used one of those 1-way windows in this new CUV... like the one on the clarity that improves outward visibility but cannot be seen through into the cabin from the outside... although if it didn't visibility could never be as bad as the X6... i mean at least the rear window appears to be level with the window line.
Acura may be able to make a cheaper FX and X6... it might prove to be a good seller for them.... or it could be a flop... they're definitely taking a chance on this one... although... i feel like it will more likely go head to head with the Infiniti EX than the FX... only because i doubt this will be seated above the MDX... the FX and X6 both start at over $45K and $55K respectively.

They will be lucky to sell 25,000 a year in this market. The best automaker in the world still struggles with product selection for the U. S. I'd much rather have a more powerful and practically priced CRV.

Acura makes great cars but it has the ugliest company grille that ruin the look of the entire car. Ditch that grille Acura. Ditch this crossover and continue working on the NSX. Honestly I see more GT-Rs than the X6 or the new FX.

It won't cost much to produce the crossover vehicle since it's the same architectural platform as the MDX. Though I agree with other posting, they need to fix that jacked up front grill and bring the New NSX back to life. They spent so much money developing the next NSX. And the last time I went to the Acura dealer I was told by my Sales person that he had 7 deposits for the new NSX and all other dealers in the country had also taken orders that would have accounted for the first 2 years of production.

Even though the RDX did not meet expected sales, this was said before, but it does compare well against vehicles in this small niche segment. I live in the Seattle Metro area and the RDX is a fairly common sight, surprisingly, since it is not a volume seller at all. MDXs are even more common. However, I have only seen about two or three new TLs, which is not a good sign. New TSXs are not that common either.

After seeing the pics with the grill, that grill would have to go for me. Just not feeling it.

"Um, Acura projected to sell 40,000 RDX's, they didn't and sales have been in the gutter since it's release."
CX7, I never said it did meet Acura sales targets but calling it a total sales flop is a bit of a stretch considering its decent overall sales performance within its segment and poor current market conditions. Keep in mind that at the time of its release the compact CUV luxury segment was super small as the X3 had the segment to itself. Keep hating all things Honda/Acura, youre great at it. =)

Giancarlo51, I see a few MDXs here and there. The RDX is a rarer site although there are 2 on my street. As I mentioned in another post, the further north I go the more RDXs and MDXs I see which makes sense given the winters. I see a BUNCH of TLs here (central Ky), at least the last generation but have just seen a few 09s and we all know why. TSXs are aplenty as even the 09s are starting to sprout up everywhere.
To be honest I think a lot last generation TL owners will choose the new TSX V6 given its a bit roomier vs the last TL and the fact thats its cheaper vs the current base TL. In my eyes the new TSX V6 is just a slightly roomier last generation TL with updated infotainment, styling and materials. The overall packages are almost too similar.
Outside of the TSX and MDX, Im not all that fond of anything Acura has to offer currently. Good thing the current crop are just the stepping stones to the next generation "tier 1" Acuras as Im anxiously awaiting to see if Acura can deliver. Hopefully the compromise and close Honda relations will be much lower and less obvious. Time will tell.

Sales not meeting expectations is considered a failure. Especially when it's not met by over 10,000 units. This was well before any poor market conditions. No one wants an extremely brittle ride in a 32,000 dollar SUV met with mostly hard plastic inside of the interior and a turbocharged 4 cylinder.
All of the other crossovers mentioned cost significantly more. There was no reason why the RDX couldn't sell like the MDX at it's price, but it's not what they marketed it to be. A fuel efficient luxury crossover with sport sedan dynamics.
It's got the last bit of that down (mostly) but it's seriously deficient in living up to the other claims.
