Steve Rattner, a leading candidate for the post of Car Czar, could see his nomination fizzle if reports of a DUI cover up involving his wife, Maureen White, are indeed true.
Michael Wolff, who's no stranger to sensationalism, wrote a piece on Friday
suggesting that Rattner used his connections at the New York Times
and the New York Post
to keep news of his wife's October arrest out of the public eye.
Wolff noted that although the arrest was reported by the New York Daily News in October, the story has since disappeared from its website. He also wondered how such a prominent couple (Rattner's wife was the DNC finance chair from 2001-2006) escaped public scrutiny.
"It is possible, of course, that the Daily News website has malfunctioned. And that the Times and the Post were asleep at the switch. And that the Rattners are the luckiest public couple in New York. Anything is possible," Wolff wrote.
Rattner is a former journalist turned investor who is rumored to be a top choice for the car czar post despite having no experience in the automotive industry.

Who the hell cares about a DUI, and not even the person getting nominated?
Was anyone killed or injured or property damaged?
I don't see why this is something anyone would care about. Who the hell cares?
It's not the same as the nominee personally evading $120,000 of income tax.

I'm not sure if Bill is being sarcastic again, but I genuinely don't care about a person's tox record. In most states, they hand those out like candy. Though, that could be said about a lot of things these days.
To add, I also don't see why someone should get in trouble for their accountant not filing your taxes properly.

estreka,
I didn't hear about the hiring an accountant part... now I'm iffy on that... but still, one takes responsibility of his own money no matter if you hand it off to someone else; the buck stops at you.
If I'm a boss and I told a subordinate to do something, the end result/ responsibility/ accountability is still mine.
This guy's wife's case is different, if wives are independent human beings with her own rights/ responsibilities/ accountability. I can only see this affect the guy himself if our system still believes husbands own their wives as property.
If that's the case can I own multiple high quality ones and fire/ sell the ones I don't want anymore?
