Although Im sure the Mustang faithful will be loyal, I dont think the "new" Mustang will suck in many potential new Mustang customers as I dont think the car has evolved enough. The Camaro on the other hand has as it should be able to shed its 1 demensional performance image, given its handling target (G37S coupe).
With cars like the Camaro, Genesis and the awesome 370Z offering better all around performance I dont see how this new Mustang will be a strong all around performance competitor.

Car people tend to underestimate the effect of a reskinning, which Ford has done about five years into the life cycles of the last two Mustang platforms. To most people, this will be a "new" Mustang. Besides, the biggest complaint is the ancient engines, and new ones are on the way.
That said, 28 grand is hefty for a "base" V8 Mustang.
