Citroen to Resurrect DS Nameplate at 2009 Geneva Auto Show

1974CitroenDS23.jpg It was only a matter of time: Automotive News Europe reported this week that Citroen will resurrect its iconic DS nameplate. Eventually, it will be a whole line of near-luxury models, but the entry-level car, the Citroen DS3, will debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show and go on sale in the first half of 2010, according to AN.

Like the reborn Mini Cooper and Fiat 500, the new Citroen DS models will be positioned as upscale small (and, eventually, medium-size) cars, with more standard equipment than Citroen's C3, C4 and C5, allowing them to be sold at higher profit margins.

Erin, I read that too. The question is will this neo-DS have the same level of incredible engineering that the original DS had? If not, it will become just another also-ran. These are some pretty big shoes to fill. Let's hope Citroen is up to the task.

The more quality, premium small vehicles, the better. I hope it comes to Canada.

Weird choice of photo. Googling Citroen DS brings up so many nice images. Not of a dirty brown car...

(guess it was supplied by the news source)

I probably shouldn't admit that I supplied the photo, but I did. -ER

And I went ahead and swapped out the original photo for a cleaner DS, a '74 DS23.

I would seriously love to buy a well-designed car with an adjustable air suspension. Could that be part of the package? If it doesn't have a trick suspension, than why call it a DS? Why not "Banana"?

I had an adjustable air suspension on my 91 Subaru Legacy LS wagon. It worked greated for a while until the air bags rotted out from exposure to the elements.

That's when I found out why the previous owner sold me a mint low mileage car so cheap.

The only replacements came from the dealer and they wanted $569 each for them. With labour, it was more then the value of the car.

I'm sure Citroen would change a lot more then Subaru which will kill your resale value.

(BTW... I found 4 used convention struts at the local pick-a-part for 20 bucks each and installed them myself and am still driving the car)

Firstwagon, good story and ending. I guess the air suspension was not a big improvement over struts. I just love the idea of it and the option to change height according to conditions, but I guess expensive systems like that keep cars in the backyard.
