Really, we mean it this time. The 2010 Audi A4 Allroad is not headed for U.S. dealerships. Audi may have suggested to us before that certain models weren't destined for the U.S., but this time the company was very straightforward in its statement.
As you might have guessed by the name, the A4 allroad is essentially an A4 Avant with a slightly higher ride height (7.1-inches) and more aggressive bodywork. It gets quattro all-wheel drive too, along with a slightly wider track and three engines choices (2.0 TFSI, 2.0 TDI, 3.0 TDI). The 2.0-liter diesel gets a six-speed manual while the other two engines offer S-Tronic only.
Sales of the 2010 Audi A4 Allroad begin this summer, in Europe at least.

Why would we want this? How's the Subaru Outback doing?
What are light off road wagons for anyways?

Same thing as crossovers. Give yourself the image that you have an interesting life.

Looks nice...but it absolutely screams Subaru Outback from the side. Besides, Subaru (and Volvo to a lesser extent with the Cross Country) have this segment locked up in the US. It's the reason the last A6 Allroad died a slow death. It was a very nicely executed car, but did not have a price commensurate with the market that demanded the capability of such a car.
Billt9 - Some iterations of the 'off-road wagon' have more ground clearance than some SUV's out there (true SUV's, not 'crossovers'), are generally more comfortable on the road, and get - on average - better gas mileage to boot. While cargo volume may not be more than a traditional SUV, the load height is usually lower, allowing for easy loading of heavy objects.
There's obviously a customer base for this segment, even if it's only to "Give yourself the image that you have an interesting life."...=)

This is welcome; a car "not coming to the US" that won't really be missed.

Two-tone look FTL (for the loss)! Yes, I also mean this for the Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, Subaru Forester, and Subaru Outback.

My wife had a '05 Legacy Wagon Outback XT. It was an awesome vehicle. Had about the same ground clearance ass my F-150, but got about 8mpg better. Plus it hauled arse with that turbo.
I like this Allroad. Always loved the Audi interiors. To me, it's just the next level after the Outback. I think it would be very competitive with the XC70.
But of course we have yet another case of these shores getting the shaft.

'as' my F-150. Paging Dr. Freud!
Also, I'm not a huge fan of the two-tone. ESPECIALLY with that 'brown' (keeping it clean) paint job. I thought that was the one thing that ruined the previous Allroad. It just wasn't tastefully done.

what about the two tone paint of the current Q7? no matter the color, you get a crappy silvery-green rocker.
