Somehow, this manages to make the x6 look good.

I used to really admire BMWs classic, lean, athletically proportioned styling but their recent efforts come off slightly bloated and Japanese like in execution as the rear of this and the new 7 remind me of a LS460. The surface tension and details have vanished.

I think BMW is trying to introduce/invent too many niche segments at the wrong time. Im not feeling this at all. There is nothing wrong with producing vehicles that are outside of traditional thinking but when it doenst exude the core philosophy of the company in question, to me it means there is a loss of focus.

I'm a big fan of wagons and hatches, but this is horribly ugly. The color choice didn't help either.

Agree with hondacura - BMW is losing its way. Too many junk vehicles and one-offs. The 3, 5, 1 and 7 aren't top dogs and instead of fixing the problems with those cars, BMW is making these dorky SAV and XAV niche cars.

Recession = people do not buy random, ugly things. Wise up BMW and offer us better 1s, 3s and 5s. Maybe consider building a lower content version of these cars, or make them more efficient (Efficient Dynamics please) and loaded with the 2.0 Diesel or a turbo 4.

Blue, I wouldnt go as far as to say BMW is loosing its way as I think BMW still produces some of the best driving sporty vehicles overall, however I do believe that BMW is putting their priorities and focus in the wrong bowl of soup. I have nothing against evolution as you have to evolve to survive but the core values/philosophy that provide definition for the comapany in question should always remain intact.

Beyond similar tactality, drivetrain refinement, and motorsports heritage, to this day Im still amazed how similar BMW and Honda are as of late theyve both been heavily criticized regarding their designs, lack of focus and the drifting from their core philosophies and values.

+1 on felonious' comments.

It looks terrible. I also like wagons and hatchbacks, but this one is ugly. The color choice is also bad; but that partial open/completely open trick of the hatchback is pretty cool.

I see no reason why they sould invent names niche cars/thing I mean "progressive activity sedan", just call it a Sedan, or a notchback or what ever, drop these almost sensless names. BMW shouldn't be about marketing ploys, it should be about engineering, and timeless, tasteful design, hell the company's name "Bavarian Motor Works", puts an enfasis on motor, which in my mind is related to engineering, presision, but not the thing in the pictures. I'm all for companies going after niche markets, but I hope for their own sake that they're targeting niches that exist, and also, going after a niche doesn't mean neglecting your "core" products. The new 5 series must be pretty damned good if they're going to be coming trying to pull off this crap.

This looks like an X6 gone bad, and the X6 was already bad. I really used to like BMW styling and design. The early '00's are what I would go for. A 3 or 5 series of the 2001 generation is what I like. But I'm not a fan of this new stuff. It might drive well and be best in class in the driving characteristics, but I would also like it too look good too.

Ok something went wrong with the proportions. It could have looked good. But the proportions are now a mess.

The hood line and the butt didn't line up. That's what happened wrong.
It's the same problem with the Nissan Sentra.

Wow.

It's almost like someone at BMW is thinking the Aztek was a good looking car, and they're trying to BMW-ize it.

Terrible. They seem to just get worse coming out of Munich.
