Last week, South Side Performance, a fabrication shop in the import-tuning Mecca of Sioux Falls SD, released an upgrade kit for the Nissan GT-R. It claimed a hearty 820-horsepower at the crank, a 340-hp bump over the stock motor.
We took it with a grain of salt as tuners rarely make a name for themselves through humility. Well, now SSP has a little more than a press release claim to brag about.
A Nissan GT-R with SSP upgrades was recently strapped to a dyno to see what it could put down at the wheels. The list of upgrades was modest:
SSP GTR820RR Turbo Upgrade Kit
SSP 3â³ Cat-less downpipes
SSP Ceramic Intake manifold spacers
HKS Kansai Titanium Cat-back Exhaust
HKS Stainless Cat-less Mid-pipe
Boost pressure turned up to 21psi
And the result? A solid 645-hp and 645 pound-feet of torque. Not bad for South Dakota.

It's a legitimate point to be concerned about. From what I've read, a lot of trannies failed with stock HP. Boosting the engine would only make it worse.
Unless you don't care about that.

So how long will it take for the CA smog gestapo to look up that license plate number and send a "free smog test" certificate to the owner of the GTR in the picture? If you think that's ridiculous, then you don't understand how desparate CA is for revenue...

Actually, a fully built transmission is one of the next things in the works. They have already put in upgraded axles since the dyno run and the SSP custom intake manifold is soon to follow.
