Remember the Jaguar XJ? Yes, it still exists. In fact, Jaguar sold 2,455 of them last year. Not bad considering that it has a design that looked dated the day it went on sale in 2003.
The 2011 Jaguar XJ shouldn't have that problem. Underneath all that camouflage, the new XJ appears to have a much different and more unique looking design. You can see a few elements of the new XF in there, but the car is obviously stretched out a little longer which should keep it from looking like a Lexus. Video after the jump.
Jaguar's latest AJ V8 engines will no doubt power the new flagship. They were unveiled for the first time at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show in the midsize XFR sedan. In that car, the base 5.0-liter engine makes 380 horsepower while the supercharged version develops 510-hp. Certainly more than "adequate", as the British might say, especially considering that this new XJ will most likely continue to use aluminum construction which will keep its weight down compared to sedans of similar size.
Sounds like a good combination. Too bad it's going to take so long to get here. Figure another year before it shows up at an auto show and another six months after that before it hits U.S. dealers.

the camo set should be for sale. Make your car look just as advertised in the news. Full Armor!
I would totally buy it.

Where's the camo? That's not production ready?
You know, they did forget to put camo on the wheels.

I agree, I like it as is. I would so buy it just so I could park in the worse compact mall spot I can find…

Although the article states that the new XJ will likely remain lightweight in relation to it's competitors, there were rumors that it would not retain it's aluminum bodywork but rather borrow much of the manufacturing techniques used on the XF. I'm positive the new model will crest 4200 pounds.

It doesn't look very large. It looks nothing the size of the S class, 7 Series, A8 or LS all of which it is suppose to be a competitor too. Maybe all the camo is playing tricks on my eyes. It looks rather mid size as opposed to full size

The size of a S Class with the weight of the current model. It's a evolution of the existing XJ's alumium chassis. The base model should be R like in acceleration at 385hp, and stunning with the 510hp engine. A 8 speed is coming soon, but even with the current ZF6 box, Jaguar is claiming better than the current XJ's stunning real world mpg's, which at 70mph I've reached 30mpgs in several XJ's over the years on a 10 mile average run.
The real "naked" car without the cladding looks in profle very close to the Rapide but with a very agressive Jaguar nose. Wait until they release pictures of the interior. It's different from anything on the market and so beautiful.

I would have guessed Dodge Magnum. ;)
I hope that it is a big hit for Jaguar, and is still recognizable as a Jaguar.
