The Nissan GT-R SpecV hit the web last night
, but at the time all we had to work with was a few photos and a bare bones press release. Well, now we have a full report from Peter Nunn in Japan, complete with additional specs and photos.
Key to this GT-R's improved performance was reduced weight. According to Nissan, the addition of various carbon fiber pieces, lighter wheels and the removal of the rear seats shed 132 pounds.
The lightweight Rays wheels measure 20-inch in diameter and are wrapped in Bridgestone RE070A run flat tires developed exclusively for the GT-R SpecV. The carbon ceramic brakes, co-developed with Brembo, reduce the unsprung weight at each wheel by 11 pounds. Oh, and they cost roughly $50,000 to overhaul.
And speaking of price, we erred in our initial report when we said it would only come in black. Turns out the Ultimate Opal Black paint is merely a GT-R SpecV exclusive color, one that comes with a hefty $6,180 price tag. White, red and gray will also be available.

Sounds pretty pointless. It's basically the Viper ACR version of the GT-R which means it'll be virtually useless on the street. Ofcourse the press will be in love with it's limited use so, what do I know?

Take it from me Chavis, we all know you hate the GTR. To be honest Chavis, I personally don't care for the way the GTRs performance is conceived (as I prefer a purer mechanical experience) but I cant argue with and have to respect the way its delivered.
The press release didn't say the car is a stripped, bare bones version and I'm pretty positive the car will retain its amenities (minus the backseat), so I'm not sure how this car would be "useless on the street" as you stated. Going by the press release, this car should be as civil as the regular GT-R just lighter, even more focused and track ready. I cant wait to see the performance numbers for this machine.

Anyone thinking of buying this should give their head a shake and try to get a better idea of the value of money.

Good deal. So a brake overhaul and new transmission (for when that blows) is gonna cost more than a regualr GTR.

Im unsure as to WHY it would cost that much money to "overhaul" the brakes. Thats simply unreal, carbon ceramic or not. Did Edmunds make a typo?

no typo on the brakes
but that is ridiculous
the breaks on a bentley brooklands ONLY cost 27000, which is cheap compared to these

Does that mean I can buy two ZR-1's for one of these?

Why does the brake cost so much? Is ZR-1's brake carbon ceramic too? How much is that over a Z06? Well, at least I don't think it will have the mark-up like the ZR-1 at this price....
