Has The Stig Finally Been Revealed?

stig-555.jpg

Another day, another report on the identity of the The Stig, Top Gear's famously anonymous test driver. This time it's from the British newspaper The Telegraph.

According to the report, Ben Collins, a former Formula 3 driver, outed himself  by commissioning a local art gallery to produce a print of him in action as the white-suited Stig.

Seems like an odd move for someone whose job depends on remaining in the shadows. In fact, the story mentions that the previous Stig, who wore all black, lost the gig after revealing his identity in a book.

I know Autoblog stoops to the point of caring about dumb gimmicks like this. I'd like to believe that IL is above it.

I think it's sad. How many Stigs have to die before people learn to keep their mouths shut?

I do believe a lot of people would have been happier just not knowing anything about his identity. It is just like telling kids that santa is not real

Don't worry people, WRC and F1 have a lot of excess talents to offer. The spirit of Stig can continue in any body.

What was the basis/meaning behind the name 'Stig'?

"The Stig's name derives from presenter Jeremy Clarkson's days at Repton School; where, according to Clarkson, new students were always called "Stig"."

Nonsense. These guys are just the Stig's helpers, like the fake Santas at the mall.
