Accord Owners Appear Desperate for Wagon Option, Honda to Deliver Soon

accord-750-2.jpg

If Honda's internal focus groups didn't already conclude there's a need for an Accord wagon, this hapless L.A. resident is proof positive that an Accord wagon would be a welcome addition to the Honda lineup.

Even without such obvious examples of need, Honda was already hard at work on a new Accord-based crossover. A U.S. patent application was approved two weeks ago complete with sketches of what looks like an Accord wagon.

And then just last week, Temple of VTEC secured some clear spy photos of a more utilitarian-looking Accord wagon. It's a dead ringer for the production model and far better looking that the Toyota Venza. Expect to see it on sale as early as the fourth quarter of 2009.

The irony of the photograph is, there *was* an Accord wagon stablemate of that vintage sedan.

That looks more like a TSX front end, though...look at the headlight shape in the front shot and the front 3/4 view.

Any chance that this thing could be an Acura? It's plausible if this is a more wagon-like vehicle. I could picture the Venza concept with more car mechanicals than the Venza has...and the by-product would be something a bit more butch than, but ultimately similar to the 3-series wagon, Jetta wagon, V50...

It looks like it's a TSX because the TSX is a Euro Accord. I think there is a huge chance that this will come through as an Acura, definitely. Otherwise it would be more of a 535xi wagon fighter than a 3 series wagon fighter, as the TSX wagon would be.

This wagon/crossover will debut as a Honda BUT the styling will be much different than the pics suggest. The vehicle in the pics over at TOV is virtually a Euro Accord (TSX) with the USDM Accord front end grafted on to it. The final production version will not look like this.

Acura has a new BMW X6 fighter in store but it has nothing to do with the Honda crossover.

What goes around comes around:
Honda introduced an Accord wagon in 1991, upgraded it in 1994, and dropped it in 1997.

Have you guys looked at the pics on TOV? It's blatantly an Accord.

But I echo the sentiment that there should be a TSX wagon sold here as well.

Accord Crosstourer is an answer seeking a question.
This is an example of the Jeopardy method of Honda design.
Nothing wrong and everything right about the current euro Accord Tourer sold in UK.
There was no need for Honda to give the Tourer the Outback treatment.

It looks like a euro accord wagon, but if you look between the rear door and the gas cap, its three or four inches longer. Also has NA accord front clip, so it could be a bit wider.

Looks better than a Venza, I agree. I hope it seats seven, but my bet is it won't. Personally, I think that the death of the wagon came because automakers would slap a different roof on a sedan as cheaply as possible. I'm glad to see two built-to-be-wagon models and hope both succeed.
