2009 Detroit Auto Show: Audi Sportback Concept

f34-750.jpg

#DAS09 Images of the Audi Sportback concept leaked out ahead of its official debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show yesterday. As expected, the new Audi concept is a low-slung four-door "coupe" much like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Volkswagen CC. We'll have more details and photos later today after its official rollout.

Not an Audi fan but that has got to be the best looking Audi ever, and that includes the R8. I dig the big wheels.

It seems only the Germans can make a big car that doesnt appear all that large in thanks to designs with low visual weight/mass and good proportion.

I like this design as its clean, modern yet still classy and timeless. I like it!

Vaguely reminds me of the BMW CS concept from a while back.

Hm for some reason i never really like audi concepts, their production cars on the other hand are pretty good looking.

I'm throwing a flag here. I love this car and would give it serious consideration when it comes to add a new sedan to my garage in about 2 years. That said, would someone please clarify what this is supposed to represent? It was announced that the concept was supposed to be a thinly disguised A7 which will slot in between the A6 and A8 in size, price, etc. However, looking at the details on this car, it obviously is based on the A5 which leads me to believe that this is indeed the pre-production version of the A5 Sportback. While we can easily predict that the A7 will essentially be a larger version of this car, what happened to the concept that was supposed to be shown or is this simply another example of misinformation by the media and/or manufacturer.

I like the concept, but I think this car should be labeled the A5 sportback, maybe to compete with the BMW PAS, and I think Audi should make a larger version, around 203 inches long, to compete with the Aston Rapide, and Porsche Panamera. You might think this is stupid because they already have a big car, the A8. Well, I think the A8 should be made longer, maybe 208-210 inches long, obviously to compete with the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and the Rolls Royce RR4.
