2009 Detroit Auto Show: Audi R8 V10 to Get Standard LED Lighting System in the U.S.

The addition of a full LED lighting system to the Audi R8 5.2 might not seem like big news, but it does represent a major shift in technology that could radically shift future car designs. It's one of those technologies that's been promised for a long time and is only now making its way into production.

As we pointed out before, the Cadillac Escalade Platinum was the first U.S. vehicle to offer both high- and low-beam LED headlights. A similar system has been optional on the R8 in Europe for some time, but the 5.2 FSI version will finally bring the new system to Stateside cars as standard equipment.
