Those following this blog know that I was in a pretty nasty 5-car mishap about month ago (End of a WRX?). I was rear-ended by a 25-year-old driving his mom's Volvo. My '06 WRX was totaled. Another car, a Kia that was an Enterprise rental was also totaled. A Lexus RX received $15,000 damage; not sure about the other cars in terms of damage. Fortunately there were no serious injuries, just a few bumps and bruises by many involved, myself included.
That's the bad news. The good news is that Allstate awarded me almost $22K to put towards a replacement.
And what a replacement it is! It's a new '09 Subaru 5-door WRX Premium Package (w/o NAVI) in dark gray! Hey, whaddya expect, me being a Subie guy? It's essentionally the same car I had, just new.
So far the first 40 miles have been great. It's certainly a lot more refined than my old ride--and that gray-on-gray wheel and body color combo sure looks sharp. Can't wait till the break-in period is over so I can let the engine sing past 4000 rpm.

That is awesome! How is the new turbocharged mill? 264hp seems pretty intense for such a small car (and a deal compared to the Sti, for most of us)

Well, it's brand new, so I haven't flogged it. It feels quicker than my old one, and all reports seem to indicate that it is.

Sorry about the accident, but wow the insurance company didn't exactly screw you over. The new WRX really has me intrigued. Hope you enjoy it!

Glad to hear your back on the road in your replacement WRX.
WRX would be a fit for me if I could obtain the 5 door WRX with an automatic.
Permanent damage to my right elbow due to dislocation prevents driving a manual for any length of time.
The GT would not suffice with it's lesser Impreza seats.
I'll wait for what I really want, a diesel Subaru.
I do like your color choice Bob.

Perhaps for '09 Subaru will also revisit the STI and change/add what enthusiasts want from it.

The 08 was really a dud, but it looks like 09 is a fantastic car. Congrats! Can't wait to see the updates!

Congrats, Bob. Nice stealthy color should help limit the speeding tickets.
