Talk about boosting your "street cred" among sports car fans! That's just what happened to the tiny upstart Tesla electric sports car company. It turns out that Porsche is on the waiting list to get one, presumably so they can tear it apart to see what makes it tick.

Now that would be a fantastic merger. Tesla would get some financial backing and a management team that lasts longer than 6 months. Porsche would finally pass EU emmissions standards.

This may be the way for Tesla. I've said several times that their roadster is a great proof of concept, but not really a product. The solution may be for Tesla to work with other auto makers in designing mass market products. Porsche isn't my first choice though.

Slow down a bit - they're buying one to dismantle. That doesn't mean they are buying the company, but rather analyzing engineering solutions that Tesla applied.
I doubt they would buy a Lotus platform or the powertrain, for that matter.
