Somehow I lucked out and ended up covering the new Camaro that Chevy really nailed. This knockoff of the Trans Am-winning Mark Donohue Camaro is easily the best-looking of the new Camaros we caught rolling into the GM booth.
It's low, wide and mean-looking. I think that's editor Oldham in the background. Later, staring at a 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge in the parking lot, he spit out his quote of the week: "Somebody needs to bring back the hood-mounted tach." Right, Scott, right.
What's this have to do with the GS Racecar Concept? Nothing.
This dude was stuck with navigating the GS concept through the hall's narrow aisles -- a task that required much K-turn skill since the Camaro has the same turning radius as our Evo X. Anyhow, it looks to have a real racecar interior.
Still, look carefully at the first photo and you'll notice that it doesn't appear to have a 3.0-inch exhaust as we said in our news piece.

Ah. This reminds me of the days when Jack Baldwin and Scott Sharp ruled the SCCA Trans-Am series in the late 3rd-gen and 4th gen Camaros before Tommy Kendall and Roush Racing started their domination. It's also crazy to remember that "Corvette man" Ron Fellows used to race a Ford Mustang during those days. Gotta give props to Dorsey Schroeder (sp.?), too. I lost some interest when the Vettes (Lou Giolotti (sp.) and Vipers (Tommy Archer) entered the series.

Agree with that NASCAR comment. Who in their right mind would want to see "The Car of Tomorrow" when we could be watching a field of race cars like this beauty?
