2008 SEMA Show: 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

Jump-1-555.jpg

You may have heard the name F-150 Raptor before. You may have even seen a spy video of one. Well, today we finally got to see one up close, and it may very well be the coolest F-150 ever built.

It's officially called the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, as it's a product of the Special Vehicle Team (SVT) that everyone (including us) thought was headed for the morgue. Better known for making cars and trucks go fast on the street, SVT focused on making the Raptor go as fast as possible in the dirt.

When it goes on sale next summer, the SVT Raptor will introduce Ford's all-new 6.2-liter V8 which is expected to develop 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The Raptor will also introduce the general public to things like internal bypass shocks and locking differentials that still work at 80 mph. It was all done in the name of bringing out your inner Ivan Stewart, and trust us, it does the job quite effectively.

The cool factor on the Raptor is pretty high.
I'm shocked that this will actually go on sale.

That is one seriously cool looking truck. Love the Tony Stewart color as well.

great development, too bad it isn't smaller. If this were a Tacoma sized truck, it would kill. I think this will be a collectable, brilliant failure. Killed by timing, just like the Tundra.

I like the way this one looks, even though I don't like the new F-150. But like cruiserhead1 said, it's a shame it has to be so damned big. I want a good compact/midsized pickup, not a super-extra-megalardo sized one.

They're only producing 400hp/400ft-lb out of a 6.2L? If you want a real rally truck, swap for a smaller engine with equal or greater hp/tq. That 6.2 will make this very frontheavy.

I'm not convinced this will keep SVT out of the morgue.

I just noticed the side vents. Blech.

Pretty cool.

Gas had dipped below $3 per in some places so the timing may not be bad after all.
