Downsizers want it all

downsizers-555.jpg

Green Car Advisor has a blog up on how owners of SUVs, when downsizing, want to keep all the luxury goodies that they're accustomed to. That's not surprising, in fact this trend is not limited to just SUV owners. Buyers of all types of vehicle, when downsizing, don't want to give up those much-appreciated luxuries.

Agreed - not surprising at all, people want it all. I gave up a few features to move to my current car, but gained in other areas, so it was more or less an even trade-off in my mind.

I hope to avoid all these auto-sensing nannies as long as possible so I won't be spoiled! My goal is to remain pleased with an outstanding "stripper" car that boasts outstanding design and performance.

It just occured to me that while some of these features are good design and practical, a lot of these features were ways to "dress up a turd", and I'm meaning trucks and SUVs with old chassis technology that were not meant to be luxury vehicles.

There's also a distinct difference between what people want and what they will pay for.

Agree with roar02ram. People say they want a lot of things. When the product hits the streets, they don't buy it.

It really sucks when it costs a manufacturer hundreds of millions of dollars to produce that product.

Especially when it comes to backup cameras and radar parking assist. You just don't need those things on most small cars.

Well said Roar!

There's also a distinct difference between what people want and what they CAN pay for. Just because your bank approved $30K for a car loan doesnt mean you have to spend $30K. Why not look in the $20-$25K range (or cheaper) instead?

Some of these features that are offered just dont make sense on any vehicle at any price.

-Rain sensing wipers (If the driver cant tell its raining they doesnt need a license.)

-Paralell parking systems (Interesting to watch in action but if you cant parallel park you shouldnt have a license.)

-Lane departure systems (If the driver doesnt know he/she isnt in their own lane, they dont need a license.)

-Blind Spot warning systems (If the driver doesnt take the time to use their mirrors and aactually turn and look they dont need a license.)

-Radar Cruise control (If the driver cant tap the brakes or disable the cruise control to slow down they dont need a license.)

It all boils down to common sense and paying attention.

I bet if we put "1,000 Horsepower" 40% of folks would say they want that, too.

LOL estreka.

We should all remember - in a marketing study people said they would buy the Pontiac Aztek, and we all know how that ended.
