By closing Delaware plant, Chrysler kills SUV hybrids

2009 Chrysler Aspen - 260.JPG

In what is the first of many expected product discontinuations, Chrysler has announced that the just-introduced Chrysler Aspen hybrid and Dodge Durango hybrid will join the ranks of the just-axed. It's a result of the news of the Delaware plant closing, where these models are made.

While not a huge surprise, this plant closing comes a full year ahead of the planned closing of this factory. And again, you can thank the horrid financial and auto market for this.

I'd rather thank the horrid vehicles for their own failure.

While this is getting a lot of attention, it should be noted that this is probably just the first of many plant closings. Heck, it's not even the first.

I wouldn't say horrid. I've driven the Durango and it drives really nice. Better then the Yukon in a lot of ways and much better then the latest crowd of crossovers if you actually need a truck.

Shame they are so homely though. The original Durango was much better looking.

They're smaller than the Tahoe and the Tahoe actually gets better mileage.

I know 1mpg isn't a lot but a consumer looking for the best will buy the Chevy.

Plus, you have to wonder if these ever made a profit.
