Well this came from out of left field. PickupTruck.com (via Automotive News) is reporting that VW may be considering a pickup built off the next-generation Beetle. What!?!?
While Euro-El Camino may sounds cute and nifty, I was hoping--especially coming from an European brand--a pickup that might challenge the full-size domestic pickups. I'm thinking something more like a Dodge Sprinter, but with a pickup bed.
It's already been reported that VW will be building a new 1-ton pickup in South America (VW pickup concept debuts at 62nd IAA Commercial Vehicles Show). That's what we need, a modern, smaller but truly work-ready truck; not a trendy, pop-culture, softie pick-'em-up.

umm ya - I'll buy this to replace my S-10. This looks less useful than VW's old rabbit based truck or yore... From the picture it looks like that bale of hay is sitting on the drivers seat!

Dodge sprinter does come in a chassis-cab version. Wouldn't be too tough to add a stake-bed or pickup box.

Ridiculous.

The Beetle was included for, I guess, shock value. VW considering production of a pickup isn't really exiting news.
As the article states that Beetle truck is years old. I remember reading that on a forum ages ago!
