Carscoop (via Km77.com, a Spanish web site) has nabbed a couple of images of the next Miata refresh.
The new front end is daring, for sure. To be honest, I don't care for it. I much prefer the current model. No word yet on other changes. The car should be officially announced soon.

Daring? It's moderately, at most, different from the current one. It looks like a Miata.

Looks like they're trying to make it an S2000. Not that that's a bad thing...

Looks almost the same to me too.
The change I want to see is a high performance version with the turbo 2.3 MazdaSpeed3 engine.

I kind of like it, and I'm considering a new Miata. I prefer this one.
The current one looks like a pill, i.e. very rounded, bulbous, feminine.
This one has more of a Mazda family resemblance, it's sharper and a little more aggressive.
The update is mild, but it looks better to me.

As great as this little sportscar is, the restyling gets worse every year. The original is still the best looking Miata.

I guess I like it OK. Not sure I love the headlights. But what's the deal with Mazda's designs. They've been trotting out the nagare stuff on the car show circuit for years now and as far as I can tell the reaction from the public and the press has been overwhelmingly positive. Is this design language ever going to start showing up in production Mazdas? Or are they just jerking us around?

I love it. The uber-feminine oval grill on the current Miata undermines the otherwise chick-car image erasing styling. This grill is much better.
And if they offer a Mazdaspeed version with the Mazdaspeed3's engine, consider me sold.

I would love to see Mazdas 2.3 DISI turbo 4 also of course with updated ECU tuning as the current engine although very powerful, needs better executed power delivery. Take a note from GMs 2.0T or VW 2.0T.

I see far better reviews for the MazdaSpeed3 then for the GM or VW turbo 4's.
Maybe they should take a note from Mazda.

"I see far better reviews for the MazdaSpeed3 then for the GM or VW turbo 4's."
If you would drive a MS3, VW GTi and a GM car ( I drove a Solstice GXP) with the 2.0T then I guess you would understand better where Im coming from. Its not about peak horsepower but how its delivered.
The Mazda 2.3 DISI is a great engine but the powerband is a bit wierd as its not overly smooth, the powerband not the engine itself. It feels like its either on or off whereas both the VW and GM 2.0Ts have consistent power throughout the entire rev range.

I drove the 09 recently and it was quite good. but here it is 6/09 and you still cant get a brochure for it. Silly.
