RM Auctions, in conjunction with the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) will shine a spotlight on a spectacular range of 'miniature classics' when the annual Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey auction event rolls into Pennsylvania next month.
Scheduled for October 10th, held in conjunction with the annual AACA Eastern Division Fall Meet, will present approximately 100 vintage automobiles for auction.
Also set to capture the attention of bidders and spur lively bidding will be a series of unique, individually customized pedal cars. Handcrafted especially for the Hershey event and inspired by some of America's favorite classics, these tiny treasures are set to prove that sometimes the most interesting and valuable objects come in small packages.
More after the jump.
"Pedal cars have been around almost as long as the automobile itself," says Ian Kelleher, Managing Director of RM Auctions. "Once childhood toys of the wealthy, the interest in collecting them is growing, with some original models fetching thousands of dollars and making them one of the fastest appreciating collectibles today.
"What is particularly interesting about the series of pedal cars to be offered at our Hershey event is that they were specifically created for the event by some of today's leading automotive restorers and designers. They will surely be a great investment in fun and nostalgia," he added.
Amongst the list of little gems set for the block are:
Distinctively Darrin, inspired by the custom bodied 1941 Packard
It's a Duesy, a replica of the mid-1930s Duesenberg roadster
Codorus Cruiser, a miniature Packard protégé
Fifth of a Fiesta, which is exactly one-fifth the size of an actual 1953 Oldsmobile Fiesta
Lost in the Fifties a fabulous tribute to a 1950s-era Thunderbird, painted in period correct peacock blue and white, with original-looking wheels, chrome bumpers and trim
Josie's '56, a miniature pink Cadillac complete with actual stock fabric from a 1956 Cadillac, real chrome and 24 karat gold plating.
The pedal cars will be offered at RM's Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey event on October 10th. An additional two pedal cars will be offered at the AACA's Night at the Museum fundraising gala on October 8th. Proceeds from all the pedal cars sales will support the Antique Automobile Club of America.
