Mazda has been making some pretty impressive cars of late, however, some may think their "greenness" may be a bit on the thin side. That could change as word is leaking out that Mazda may be working on a car that could give the Chevy Volt a run for its money. Unlike the Volt--and every other hybrid vehicle to date--is that this Mazda could well use a rotary engine to recharge the batteries. Can you say, "ZAP-ZAP?"

Not that I dislike the RX cars, mind you. But it seems that non-rotary engines have done pretty well making power efficiently, and seem to have less issues than I've heard about for the rotaries.
So I don't see the engine difference being anything special. The RX's haven't proven to have an edge because of the engine design over similar vehicles, so why should a hybrid powered by one be any better?

Rotary engines are certainly interesting, but they are far, FAR from being green. Ironic that the RX is known for burning oil and for inefficient fuel use.
This sounds like a royally dumb idea all around.
