Hot Damn! A new Caddy wagon based on the slick CTS!
Two V6s are available. The base engine puts out 263 hp, and the hotter direct-injection version a healthy 304 hp; with both hooked up to either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed row-it-yourself gearbox.

If the CTS doesn't grab you, how 'bout the new next-gen 2010 SRX? This will be debuting at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this weekend. No word yet on the mechanicals, but expect a V6, possibly a 4-cylinder engine (!), but a V8 is unlikely.

The CTS wagon looks gorgeous. I liked the coupe concept, but I almost like this better. It doesn't look like a wagon at all, the same way an Audi A3 doesn't.
Better yet it looks good from every angle.
This is what families should buy, instead of Tahoes. Right car and the right time, indeed.
I think the SRX is less successful. While the CTS wagon is consistently angular, the SRX sort of can't decide if it wants to be angular or rounded. It comes off looking like a mix of Infiniti FX, Acura RD-X, and Cadillac, rather than a pure Caddy.

Or you could buy a Saab wagon now which is just as stylish (and probably has the same parts in it).

The Saab 9-3 and 9-5 Sportcombis are wholly different vehicles.
And what a mighty difference wagonizing makes! 10 whole cubic feet more cargo room than the sedan! I'm assuming that's with the second-row seats in the upright position with tray-tables stored.

I think the right car for families would be one that the driver could actually see out of to avoid hitting one of the members of the family in the driveway. Or can drive without hitting another vehicle while trying to make a lane change. The D-pillars on both of these are an obscene example of form over function. They could still be stylish without such huge blind spots. And GM is hardly alone in this.

That CTS wagon is simply GORGEOUS. Unfortunately the SRX pictured seems a bit bland and not nearly as well executed as the CTS. That character line just makes it worse.
Another thing Id like to add. Assuming the SRX is FWD based going by its proportions, its hard to incorporate a design from a RWD car and implement it to a FWD based vehicle successfully. The RWD Charger vs FWD Avenger validates my point.

Is it me or does that side vent thingy scream "FORD FOCUS!!"? They even share that strange character line. If GM was looking for a good character line, they shoud look at the current 04-08 Acura TL or a BMW 5, not some cheap economy car...
OTOH, the CTS wagon looks great! Its a shame the SRX came out so bad even with very similar green houses! Cadillac should send this back to the drawing board ASAP...
The CTS wagon reminds me of the once great Dodge Magnum that was wrongfully discontinued!

BTW, I mean the SRX's side vent and character line.
Also forgot to put in how I hope the CTS wagon won't meet the same fate as the Dodge Magnum.
I MISS THE EDIT BUTTON!!!

Agreed. I don't think those stupid big D pillars even look good (in general, and specifcally) When did glass go out of style?!

Both look good. The CTS SW just looks fantastic.
The SRX looks nice especially from the rear three-quarter. However, fake pep boys vents scream Folex, Cucci, Dolce&Gobananna because this ride is headed to a double-wide in Arkansas.
If you are going to stamp it into the bodyside and turn it into a majore styling element than it had better be authentic!
a MPG comparison would be interesting. That CTS CW is wicked tempting. Backing out of a parking space might require a few hail Mary's and holding of breath...

The CTS wagon looks great, although the D pillar is quite thick. I wish they would have stretched the glass back more, because with the big slab of metal there, it conjures up images of other Caddy wagons....aka hearses!!
