This should probably come as no surprise, as the soaring fuel prices have but a real hurting on anything that hints at being a pickup. While the U.S and Europe won't get this truck, South America will. So all is not lost from VW's standpoint, even though 700 jobs from the Hanover factory will disappear.

The only chance this truck would have had is if it was offered with one of VW's excellent diesels. Maybe something around a 2.5L.
Now we'll never know though.
