Is a Volvo sale next?

Now that the Land Rover/Jaguar sale to Tata is complete, might Ford be considering selling Volvo?

Ford has long denied that Volvo would be sold, however, Just-Auto.com is now reporting that just such a sale may indeed be in the works; if not in the works, at least is being comtemplated. If it happens, it would be much more difficult considering so that many Ford products are tied to Volvo platforms and vice-versa.

This will be good for Ford. I felt like one of the reasons we don't have the new Focus was to leave room above Ford for a better Volvo (C30).

Here's their reference: "Even an analyst weighed in, saying such a sale would be complex but not impossible, and looks increasingly likely."

So some unnamed individual, claiming to be an analyst (whatever that means), says it "looks increasingly likely".

At least the author's nephew, um analyst, gives the following reason: "After all, it proved possible to sell Jaguar and Land_Rover to Tata and preserve engine supply and technology transfer deals."

Is that what the analysis is based on? This is ridiculous. The Internet has ruined journalistic integrity.

Ford selling Volvo probably isn't a bad decision. Volvo has hardly contributed a thing to Ford's line-up, and has increased the demise of the Mercury brand. Having two "near-luxury" brands under the same family is pointless. Why even have one?

Volvo could be served better if it was sold to a more appreciative owner that respected the traditions of the brand as they used to be. Ford could be served better for not having to upkeep and maintain a redundant line-up.
