The Z28 is another casualty of the escalating fuel prices. So Chevy fans, here's what you'll be missing:
A 6.2L, small block V8 with a roots-style supercharger that reportedly was to put out 500 to 550 horsepower. So with the Z28 now a no-show, the SS model will be the Max-Camaro. In that guise, you'll find a LS3 V8 with around 400 to 450 hp.

Call me picky, but it irks me that so many folks have trouble spelling "Camaro" (such as in the title of this entry). Is it really that hard?
Take a look at your local paper's classifieds. It's filled with ads for Cameros, Barettas, and my favorite: the Volkswagen Beatle.

Ooops WRONG try again. LLN is a pretty horrible source for Camaro information, as it is pretty obvious they absolutely loathe domestic brands. Heck they even claimed earlier that this would be the first time the Z28 has been the top performance model. How absurd. Anyway, this falsehood was firmly debunked by Camaro5's GM source, who is placed much closer to the project than LLN's anonymous sources. As our source said, "I don't recall seeing them at any meetings". The Z28 will still happen, and come July 22nd LLN will be eating their words.
Also, if you're going to spread a false rumor, the least you could do is spell the car's name correctly. It hasn't changed in over 40 years.

along with the nit-picking theme...
wasnt the Z28 always one step BELOW the SS?
i mean....the SS was always the most powerful
Camaro right? and the Z28 more mid-level...
so then why would the Z28 have been an "option"
that was more powerful than the ultimate "SS"
guise???
can someone either elaborate or correct me on this?
PEACE

Isaac, that's a common misconception, lately quoted by the very LLN that started this rumor. Throughout Camaro history there have been many different high performance trim levels, and there has never been one that is consistently "top dog". During the 1st generation (67-69) the SS was the mass market volume high performance model. The Z28 was a hard-core racer built less for pure straightline speed and more for road courses, with a high winding engine and a very sporty suspension. The SS just had a really big engine. In fact, in the first few years the Z28 wasn't even advertised. You had to be "in the know" and intentional about buying a no-holds barred racing machine. Flash forward to the 4th gen, and the roles were reverse. The Z28 was the mainstream performance model and the SS was the limited edition "top dog". Though GM has officially said nothing about the Z28 yet (announcement comes July 21st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) word is Z28 will again be the limited edition GT500/SRT8 model.
As far as the original intent of this post, I present the rebuttal. This is a direct quote from Scott Settlemire, aka Fbodfather:
NOW HEAR THIS:
The Camaro has NOT been pushed back. They will be in dealerships in the first quarter of 2009 as 2010 models.
The Z28 is not dead.
The Headlights are NOT production intent.
That is as close to official as we'll get before July 21st. Take it to the bank, or wherever you put your money these days.

aaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! i am sick and tired of high gas price bull afecting the way we live. the camaro z28 is an instant classic. i hope that the term Z28 isnt dead(im positive it isnt) but cancelled is bad enough. id rather have a z28 then an SS since SS basically means a sporty version of almost every chevy vehicle these days why not scratch SS and make that the Z28. i think that would make more sense. but what do i know.
