Subaru Exiga announced

Subaru finally took the wraps off their JDM-specific Exiga. Anyone following Straigtline knows this is a new Subie 7-seater, but for the the Japanese market. As to whether it will be exported to other markets, that's not known at the moment, but my guess is that it will be.

The interior strongly hints of the new Forester and Impreza, as much of the dash and interior door panels appears to use parts from those models...
In fact the instrument cluster appears to be identical to what the Forester and Impreza use. The Exiga is 186.6" long, which is 7" longer than the Forester. The width is about the same at 70." Rumor has it the next Outback, which should debut shortly, may be based on this vehicle.

A couple of points of interest is that this is the first Impreza/Forester-based vehicle in which the turbo model gets a 5-speed automatic, and that non-turbos are available in both FWD and AWD,

Full story here and here. Interesting that in Japan this is viewed as a minivan (here).

I could see the Exiga coming here as the new Outback. The Legacy sedan will grow and the Tribeca will be the wagon -crossover variant for the Legacy.

The other possibility is that we never see the Exiga.

With fuel prices on the rise I wouldn't be surprised if Subaru shifts its emphasis to smaller platforms for the US.

Sub/Toyota sports car - Impreza - Forester - Exiga/ Outback
Same base platform - makes sense.

Time will tell.

I wonder if there'd be a rearseat delete option.

I don't think so. I've seen no mention of that.

It's too tall to be the next Outback. It looks more like a competitor to the Mazda 5.
