For the first time since 1991, the Ford F-150 has been pushed out of the number one selling slot by the Honda Civic (53,299). In fact the F-150 was also passed by the Toyota Corolla (52,826), Toyota Camry (51,291), and the Honda Accord (43,728). The F-150 came in fifth just 800 shy of the Accord (42,928). This just more evidence that the established order in the auto industry is quickly falling by the wayside...

I knew there was specualtion that the F-150 would be passed by the Camry, but it gets passed by four!

Amazes me how a vehicle so ugly ends up being the top seller....

It blows my mind it sells better than the new Accord, which isn't much more expensive and doesn't get much worse fuel economy.
So yeah... at this point.... it does appear.... four dollar a gallon gas has turned the world upside-down.

The Civic has been the top seller in Canada for years (Mazda3 is usually 2nd).
Welcome to the club, it's a great car.
(p.s. our gas is over $5.00 /gallon)

bepperb - also, note that the older Camry is also outselling the Accord and the older Civic is outselling the brand-new Corolla (which had been semi-languishing on dealer showrooms until May).
The Civic makes sense in terms of Edmunds' little comparo. Not to plug Edmunds stuff. =)

Right now I bet a lot of people walk in and want the most efficient sedan they can find.
Plus, Civic and Corolla are nearly mid-sized now. The Accord is full-sized, and that's bigger than most people truly need.

The Civic's a pretty darn big midsized car. Backseat of the Civic is in no way compact for an average sized adult.

I like the look of the new Civic. It sure beats the previous generation. Nothing beats the 5th gen, though.
Also, keep in mind the Civic is the best seller because the F150 (and friends) dropped, not because Civic sales spiked. Oh wait, it did. n/m

I can't believe "compacts" are outselling "midsized" in the USA.
Sure "compacts" outsell "midsized" in the rest of the entire world.
But in the USA, wow. Go Civic.
And talk about Toyota's recent recruit of the Subaru plant to build more Camrys. Couldn't they see Camry sales were not going to increase with such a mediocre design? 400,000 a year of new boring car on the road is already too many.

The new Civic is very good quality for the money, and performs its task of being a primary car very well. Some may have commented on the high noise levels when driving over course chip roads, and I must say that it is fairly loud. however, I'm sure this partly comes down to tyre choice and is not the sought of problem that would detract from the overall ownership experience.
