Kia cancels pickup plans

Bad news for Kia and truck fans. Mike Levine of PickupTruck.com is reporting (via a conversation with Jalopnik editor, Ray Wert) that the Kia pickup is not going to happen.

Apparently this cancellation is a victim of the high gas prices, and the effect that is having upon the light truck market. The truck was to built in Georgia...
Instead, a mid-sized sedan will be built there.

That's ok. There's not exactly a vacuum in the truck market now anyway. I'd have been surprised if Kia shocked the world with a class-leading entry.

Kia was probably right to pull the plug on their pickup. Timining and fuel prices are not good.Since we never got the diesel Sorento in the states, I guess that wouldn't have been an option.
I wonder why VW is going forward with their pick up program. It would make more since to put a more fuel efficient base engine in the Rabbit.
